Historic Sleeping Bear

Outreach Coordinator – Volunteer Position

Amidst the 71,000-acre park features sand dunes, diverse forests, rivers, inland lakes, miles of Lake Michigan beach, and two offshore islands, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore embraces 366 historic structures and cultural landscapes including a significant historic farming district, a lighthouse, inns, log cabins, and historic fields. Historic Sleeping Bear, a nonprofit partner of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore since 1998, is seeking a qualified volunteer Outreach Coordinator to assist with communicating with the public, our members, volunteers, media, and online sites, as well as assisting with events and programs. The position is 5 hours a week from mid-September through March. And 16 hours a week from April through the first week of September. If you are looking to help preserve the heritage of the area and have skills in writing, organizing events, and have experience or the ability to be trained in social media and website updates, please contact us at [email protected] for further information.

Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes

Communications Director 

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has been called “The most beautiful place in America” and it needs your help. Our 600+ member organization helps ensure that the more than a million people who visit Sleeping Bear Dunes each year have a great experience, while helping to protect this precious resource.  We are looking for a person with good communication skills and experience with IT communication tools to join our high-functioning all volunteer organization. 

The Communications Director helps to educate the public about the Friends, our mission, projects and opportunities available to help the park. This is accomplished by maintaining an active social media presence, up-to-date website, providing a communications outlet for information about current Friends and Park activities and facilitating communications with local news outlets.
