DESCRIPTION:Park Partner Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear celebrates the annual Michigan Log Cabin Day this year by  highlighting the Boekeloo Cabin\, one of six log cabins on the mainland in the Park. \nStuart Boekeloo is a descendant who will be on-site to share history and stories of his family’s time at the cabin. \nCheck out Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear’s preservation of the cabin\, having restored the windows\, door\, bridge and property fence\, and replaced and repaired logs. Location: The cabin is set at the end of a two mile two-track in the Platte River area of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. A peaceful location on a cranberry bog with a path from the cabin to Lake Michigan\, it’s a hidden favorite for many.

DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, September 5\, Traverse City native Rachel B will be sharing her special brand of “empowerment pop” with visitors at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore). Rachel will be performing from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Platte River Campground Amphitheater\, and the concert is free with a park pass. \nBorn Rachel Borovik\, but better known by her stage name of “Rachel B\,” the singer has cited Ella Fitzgerald\, Billie Holiday\, and Corinne Bailey Rae as her inspiration. Her style has been described as pop\, jazz and soul combined. Rachel refers to her style as being “soulful empowerment pop.” \nRachel’s songs are sassy\, imaginative and energetic\, and she has been compared favorably to Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse. \nAll concerts are free with a park pass. Passes may be purchased at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, Michigan and cost $15 (per vehicle) for seven days or $30 for an annual pass.

Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight! \nDuring the week\, join the “Find Your Park Scavenger Hunt“\, which can be downloaded from www.nps.gov/slbe or pick up a copy at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center. Then share your experiences on social media using #findyourpark. Also\, check out the National Lakeshore’s Facebook Page and the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes Facebook page. SUMMARY:Ranger-led Snowshoe Hikes at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
DESCRIPTION:Come explore Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore) on snowshoes this winter! Join park rangers for a guided snowshoe hike this holiday season and every Saturday throughout the winter. The first hike of the season will be on Saturday\, December 27\, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The snowshoe hikes will continue to be offered every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. through March 7\, 2015. Meet at the National Lakeshore’s Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire. If you don’t have your own snowshoes\, a pair will be loaned at no charge. Participants need only purchase the park entrance pass or have an annual pass to join in the fun. \nReservations are required whether you need to borrow snowshoes or have your own.  Ranger-led snowshoe hikes are limited to 30 participants.
