SUMMARY:MMF: The Summer Singers
DESCRIPTION:The Summer Singers\, an all-volunteer group of 50 voices\, put a period on the 2018 Manitou Music Festival. This traditional MMF closing concert is Tuesday\, August 14\, 7 pm. The concert takes place at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church\, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road\, in Burdickville. The concert is free. \nAs the traditional closing act of the Manitou Music Festival\, the Summer Singers offers singers of any vocal ability a chance to sing in the group. For the past 16 summers\, the Summer Singers have welcomed all comers to its weekly rehearsals. Concerts are a mix of upbeat popular music and American standards. This enthusiastic group of mixed voices has been singing to a packed house for many years. \nThe Manitou Music Festival is a project of the Glen Arbor Arts Center. DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Players [GAP] perform “The Diaries and Adam and Eve\,” an adaptation of two Mark Twain stories about a couple in Paradise. The performance is July 27 + 28\, 7:30 pm at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church\, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road\, Glen Arbor. \nGAP regular Ron Smith wears many hats in this production. He adapted the work\, directs and performs in it with Janet Stipicevich. “Diaries” is a witty\, charming work in which Mark Twain retells the Garden of Eden story in the first person\, presenting the separate perspectives in diary form of the legendary father and mother of the human race. Adam is a grouchy couch potato\, Eve is a talkative\, curious experimenter. While trying to escape from his creditors\, he has a flat tire and parks his car in a decadent mansion on Sunset Boulevard. He meets the owner and former silent-movie star Norma Desmond\, and\, suddenly\, Joe Gillis has something to write about. The GAP script was adapted by the production’s director\, Ron Smith\, from a 1951 radio broadcast and from the 1950 script used in the Hollywood film.

SUMMARY:Acting Auditions for Readers' Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Arts Center [formerly Glen Arbor Art Association] Readers’ Theater will hold auditions for two Sam Spade plays on Wednesday\, Feb. 21\, 2018\, 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church\, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road\, in Burdickville. \nThis Readers’ Theater production offers roles for 19 adults – a minimum of eight men\, and 11 women. One of the male roles requires a French accent. One of the female roles\nrequires an Italian accent. In this pair of Spades\, “The John Doe Caper” and “The Flopsy\, Mopsy and Cottontail Caper\,” Dashiell Hammett’s fictional detective finds himself matching wits with a range of colorful criminals and characters. The plays will be directed by Readers’ Theater veteran Harriett Mittelberger. \nRehearsals will take place on Wednesdays. Performances are April 13 – 14\, 7:30 p.m. at the church. The Readers’ Theater production offers roles for three men\, two women\, one teenage boy and a narrator. \nErnest Thompson’s 1979 play focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer\, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place\, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé Billy Ray and his son Billy Ray Jr. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up\, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage. \nOn Golden Pond is directed by Ron Smith\, and is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service\, Inc.\, New York.
