Long a favorite author of ours\, Elizabeth is the best-selling author of more than 30 books\, including novels\, two short story collections\, two compilations of Facebook entries and a manual on writing. She will speak at the town hall and following the program there will be a reception and book signing at Cottage Book Shop. We will have books on hand for purchase. Please join us as we welcome Elizabeth\, her dog Gabby and my old buddy Bill! \nElizabeth Berg is the author of many bestselling novels\, including The Story of Arthur Truluv\, Open House (an Oprah’s Book Club selection)\, Talk Before Sleep\, and The Year of Pleasures\, as well as the short story collection The Day I Ate Whatever I Wanted. Durable Goods and Joy School were selected as ALA Best Books of the Year. She adapted The Pull of the Moon into a play that enjoyed sold-out performances in Chicago and Indianapolis. Berg’s work has been published in thirty countries\, and three of her novels have been turned into television movies. She is the founder of Writing Matters\, a quality reading series dedicated to serving author\, audience\, and community. She teaches one-day writing workshops and is a popular speaker at venues around the country. Some of her most popular Facebook postings have been collected in Make Someone Happy and Still Happy. SUMMARY:Plein Air Weekend: The Paint Out Sale
DESCRIPTION:Plein Air Weekend:\nThe Paint Out | Saturday\, August 3\nPainters from across Michigan and the Midwest converge on Glen Arbor August 1-3 for the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s 11 th Plein Air Weekend. This annual event is highlighted by three\noutdoor painting competitions that offer participants both daytime and sundown events; and two exhibits of original work. \nThe weekend’s culminating event\, the Paint Out Sale on Saturday\, August 3\, features work by 65 artists who registered early to be included in this all-day painting event. The evening viewing\nand sale is 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Glen Arbor Town Hall.  The paintings are complemented by an appetizer/wine reception. More than 100 works of art will be exhibited and offered for sale on a first-come basis (at the sound of the gong at 5:45). Petoskey painter Heidi Marshall will judge and award cash prizes for the best paintings. A People’s Choice Award will also be given. \nThe evening’s show and sale is a ticketed exhibition. The juried Art Fair features pottery\, painting\, textiles\, woodworking\, and jewelry\, as well as face painting\, a raffle\, and a bake sale. Lunch is available for purchase on site including the popular walking tacos and cherry chicken salad. Admission is free.  \nEach year\, thousands of people shop for that unique piece of art\, either for themselves or for a special gift.  \nAll proceeds support the Glen Lake student scholarship program. DESCRIPTION:Glen Lake Community Library’s annual Used Book Sale will be held at the Glen Arbor Township Hall on August 8th thru the 10th. \nAt the Preview Party\, on Aug. 8 from 6-9 p.m.\, shoppers can choose from thousands books and have an opportunity to mingle with friends and enjoy delicious appetizers and sweet treats. The cost is $5. \nThe general sale will be on Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  \nThe sale will conclude on Friday\, August 10th with a Bag Sale. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, shoppers can purchase a bag for $5 and fill it to the brim with as many books and other items as they can fit in. \nThe sale is meticulously organized\, with the books arranged into more than 50 categories. This year\, there’s an extraordinary selection of biographies and histories as a result of donations from several estates. An extraordinary number of vintage books are available this year\, as well. On-line registration for this event opened in mid-March\, and closed in 90 minutes the same day it opened. Paintings created during the August 4 Paint Out are brought to the Glen Arbor Town Hall\, 6394 W. Western Avenue/M-22\, mid-afternoon\, and an evening viewing and sale runs from 5:30 – 7:30pm. The paintings are complemented by an appetizer/wine reception. Over 100 works of art will be exhibited\, and offered on sale on a first-come basis (at the sound of a gong). Frankfort studio artist Ellie Harold will judge and award cash prizes for the best paintings. A People’s\nChoice Award will also be given. \nTickets for the Paint Out show and sale are $15 if paid before August 1\, and $20 at the door.
