DESCRIPTION:“Stan Brubaker’s” Celebrate America – 4th of July Parade\, 2024\nCelebrate America on the 4th of July with floats and vintage cars\, as they parade from Glen Haven to Glen Arbor at 12 Noon.\nJim Dorsey will be honored as our Grand Marshall for the 4th of July Parade this year. Jim\, an Empire treasure\, is enjoying his 100 th year on Glen Lake. His service as Empire postmaster for 28 years and his first-hand recall of local events during the past century is cherished by all his friends and acquaintances.  \nThis annual community parade is open to anyone who wants to celebrate the founding of our great country on its birthday. Parade vehicles will gather in Glen Haven early Thursday morning at 10:30am and will proceed towards Glen Arbor at Noon. Walkers are asked not to join the parade until the last vehicle passes the Christian Science Church\, via Forest Haven Rd. \nThis is all of our parade! Please help keep yourself and others safe. Many stretches are very crowded. Please keep children away from entering the street and follow the guidance from the “broom crew” which is comprised of many volunteers who “broom” candy from the street. Water balloons and squirt guns are prohibited\, and we ask you to spread the word to all our spectators. Anyone is welcome to participate. No registration is required. \nPlease contact the Township office at (231)334-3539 if you can help with the “broom crew.”  More helpers are always welcome. Flagging tape linking orange cones emphasize the boundary for parents and their children.

Event “Batter Cards” will be available at M22 Glen Arbor and Cottonseed Apparel. Take your card around town and “run the bases” while supporting local businesses and seeing what’s new and open for the season. Stop by any six participating businesses in the area to see if you can score a home run! Purchases are encouraged but not required. 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be selected to receive “Glen Arbor Bucks.” \nHow it works:\nThe event will take place at your leisure from Friday to Sunday\, May 19th\, 20th and 21st. Participants are to pick up their batter card at M22 Glen Arbor or Cottonseed. The card has six spaces (or bases) to get stamped. As you spend the weekend in Glen Arbor\, ask local businesses to stamp your card. Purchases are encouraged but not required during this “shop small\, eat local” campaign. Once all six bases have been stamped\, participants should drop off their completed batter card to M22 Glen Arbor or Cottonseed. DESCRIPTION:Painters from across Michigan and the Midwest will converge on Glen Arbor August 4\, 5\, and 6  for the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s 13th Plein Air Weekend.  \nThis year the event will be highlighted by three outdoor painting competitions and two exhibitions of original work. The Sundowner is Thursday\, August 4th. The artists will work to capture the sunset. The Quick Draw is Friday\, August 5. This year’s theme asks artists to paint their interpretation of “Pastoral  Life: Capturing Images of Barns\, Farms\, and Fields.” The public is welcome to watch the artists in action. Quick Draw and Sundowner paintings will be on view and for sale at the Glen Arbor Town Hall\, 6394 W. Western Avenue/M-22\, on Friday\, August 5\, 5 – 6:30 pm. Glen Arbor artist Barb Cochran will judge the paintings. There will be cash prizes. \nThe weekend’s culminating event\, the Paint Out exhibit and sale\, is Saturday\, August 6. It features work by 70 artists who registered early to be included in this all-day painting event. The evening viewing and sale is 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. More than 100 works of art will be exhibited and offered for sale on a first-come basis (at the sound of the gong at 6 pm).  Grand Rapids art gallery owners\, Scott and Linda LaFontsee\, will judge and award cash prizes for the paintings including the Amy L. Clark-Carels $1\,000 first place prize. Entry to Saturday evening’s show and sale is ticketed. Tickets will be $10 and and available at the door. Children under 12 are free. \nThe Plein Air Weekend is a major fundraising event for the Glen Arbor Art Center. Event “Batter Cards” will be available at M22 Glen Arbor and Cottonseed Apparel. Take your card around town and “run the bases” while supporting local businesses and seeing what’s new and open for the season. Stop by any six participating businesses in the area to see if you can score a home run! Purchases are encouraged but not required. 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be selected to receive “Glen Arbor Bucks.”  \nHow it works: \nThe event will take place at your leisure on May 20th\, 21st and 22nd. Participants are to pick up their batter card at M22 Glen Arbor or Cottonseed. The card has six spaces (or bases) to get stamped. As you spend the weekend in Glen Arbor\, ask local businesses to stamp your card. Purchases are encouraged but not required during this “shop small\, eat local” campaign. SUMMARY:4th of July Parade
DESCRIPTION:Yes! The 59th Fourth of July Parade\, from Glen Haven to Glen Arbor will happen on Sunday\, July 4th!\n10:30am and after on the 4th\, all will be welcomed to Glen Haven to line up and get ready to go. Vehicle line-up is organized into “groups” in Glen Haven by our volunteers in RED SHIRTS\, and Stan Brubaker in his usual YELLOW. If you’re a walker joining the parade\, enter the parade via Forest Haven. \n12pm the line up will roar slowly out of Glen Haven to make their way into Glen Arbor. \nNote: This we the community relied on our Governor’s decision. On may 20th 2021\, she announced “Michigan will fully lift outdoor capacity limits on June 1 and starting July 1\, end indoor gathering caps that were put in place to curb Covid-19.” We take that to mean\, since we are “outdoors” and “gathering” we can therefore have our parade! We hope you agree. Parade attendees/watchers should stay on the sidewalks and out of the street. It’s simply a bunch of Americans showing their gratitude and patriotism in an old-fashions\, small town way. This parade celebration would not work without our volunteers\, sweepers. We always could use more. DESCRIPTION:Due to the corona virus and social distancing restrictions\, this event is cancelled. Look for a virtual parade on social media.\n\n4th of July Parade in Glen Arbor\nHead on down to Glen Arbor and shop/dine – most places are open for at least half the day for visitors. Grab a spot and enjoy the big 4th of July Parade downtown Glen Arbor\, beginning at 12pm. The parade leaves from Glen Haven making its way through to the North/East end of town. This year’s parade Marshal is _TBD_. \nParticipate…\nEveryone is welcome and “anything goes!” \nWant to participate in the parade? Cyclists (kids and families) and Walkers can join in the parade starting at the Christian Science Church. Cars and Floats participating in the parade\, please meet at Glen Haven to line up 45 min prior to the parade start time. The parade begins at Noon.  \nWant a front row seat? Volunteer! We always need as many parade volunteers as possible. Bring your own broom to help walk with the parade and sweep the candy back towards the crowd\, to keep kids off the street and safe. \nEnjoy the area…\nMost shops and restaurants are open part of the day for you! Please make sure to come to town early to park and enjoy shopping the lovely retailers and art galleries.
