SUMMARY:Sculpture: Architecture\, Artifact and Totem
DESCRIPTION:Sculpture – architectural and totemic – comes to Center Gallery for an extended stay. The work of artists Larry Fox and Van Wilson is on display Sept. 18-Oct. 11. A 6 p.m. reception for the artists opens the show. \n  \nFox constructs non-representational wall compositions from wood and canvas. The Omena artist is known locally and nationally for the dimensional\, dynamic shapes he constructs\, and for the complex surfaces he creates from layers of acrylic paint. Fox’s work is found in private collections as well as on the walls of corporate enterprises. \n  \nWilson’s freestanding\, totemic sculptures are carved from wood or assembled from metal and other found objects. The Maple City artist grew up in West Texas and brought with him a love of crows\, the traditional messengers of the spirit world. Wilson takes a playful approach to creating his totems\, mixing and matching and stacking shapes and creatures that he has painted in eye-popping colors. \n  \nFor more information\, please call Center Gallery\, 231/334-3179.

DESCRIPTION:Traverse City painter Lori Feldpausch’s “greatest teacher” has been the natural world – on full display in her exhibition at Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. This show of plein air and studio paintings opens July 31 with a 6 p.m. artist’s reception. \n  \nFeldpausch’s goal is to capture the light her subjects reflect. Although known for her landscape paintings\, Feldpausch has begun to insert human figures into these scenes inspired by the natural world. This exhibition continues through Aug. 6. SUMMARY:Charles Murphy: New Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Center Gallery opens its 2015 May 22 with new works of Up North icons by Traverse City painter Charles Murphy. A public reception for the artist is 6 p.m. at the gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \n  \nMurphy’s new body of work reflects his affinity for classic\, northern Michigan symbols – boats\, barns\, birds and the diverse landscape. He looks for subjects that have a strong “local” presence\, and records them as sketches\, which are later finished in the studio. Murphy’s evocative\, emotive impressions of his homeplace are executed in a richly saturated palette using watercolor\, oil and acrylic. \n  \nTwo artist’s demonstrations are scheduled as part of this exhibition\, June 6 and June 20\, 1 p.m. at Center Gallery. DESCRIPTION:Ohio artist Joseph Lombardo exhibits new paintings of Glen Arbor\, July 11-17\, Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. The show opens with a public reception July 11 at 6 p.m. \n  \nLombardo\, an adjunct professor at Columbus College of Art and Design\, first visited Glen Arbor in 2009. During that summer visit he began a series of oil paintings of the vicinity that continues to evolve. These new oil paintings are part of a series of works that explore the Leelanau landscape\, the luminous light and bright colors that characterize the region in summer. \n  \nAs part of his exhibition\, Lombardo conducts a demonstration at Center Gallery\, July 12\, 1 p.m. This demonstration is an opportunity to watch the artist work\, and to talk with him about his process and technique.
