DESCRIPTION:“Explore Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore at night on a candlelit winter hike on Saturday\, February 10 and Saturday\, February 17 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Dune Climb. Arrive anytime between 6 pm and 7:30 pm to enjoy the full experience. Join park rangers and volunteers to experience the park after dark. Hike one mile on flat terrain along a candlelit trail. Bring your sense of adventure\, enjoy a trail lit by luminaries\, and engage with our knowledgeable rangers and volunteers. \nAll ages welcome. Please leave pets at home as the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail is currently closed to dogs. \nThis hike will take place regardless of snow conditions. Park rangers will share information along the route. If there is adequate snow\, this will be a snowshoe hike. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes for the event. Snowshoes will also be loaned on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nAll programs are free with a valid park entrance pass. Passes may be purchased at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, Michigan\, and cost $25 (per vehicle) for seven days\, $45 for an annual Sleeping Bear Dunes pass\, or $80 (or less) for the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands pass series. \nThere is no advanced registration needed. Stop by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for a day of festivities aiming to provide safe and barrier-free opportunities to engage youth (primarily K-5th graders) in fishing! \nBetween 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.\, collect a Junior Angler booklet from the Mobile Visitor Center (Bear Force One) and complete all activity stations to learn about aquatic food webs\, water safety\, Leave No Trace\, the importance of fishing to the Anishinaabek\, etc. Once the Junior Angler booklet is complete\, return it to Bear Force One to earn a Junior Angler badge and other goodies! \nCompleting the Junior Angler booklet and activities takes about one hour\, so please plan on arriving to Loon Lake by 1:00 p.m. to ensure there is enough time to complete all stations. This event is the first of several Junior Angler Day events funded by a generous grant from the National Park Foundation that will be happening at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore this summer.
