SUMMARY:Vintage Jewelry Sale and Donation Drop Off
DESCRIPTION:The Glen Lake Woman’s Club will be selling unique vintage jewelry at the Glen Lake Community Library during the Empire Artisan Marketplace\, November 29th\, 10 am to 4 pm. Shoppers will find the perfect\, sparkling holiday gifts of earrings\, necklaces\, bracelets\, rings\, and pins to meet the budget of every shopper.  \nDonations of used jewelry will also be accepted at the event. Donations by members of the community have made it possible to provide scholarships to graduates of Glen Lake High School. If you are interested in donating jewelry or learning more about the upcoming sale\, contact glwcjewelry@gmail.com. Since 1980\, the Woman’s Club has awarded over $368\,000 to 271 students to assist them on their path of higher learning. The Glen Lake Woman’s Club is a 501(c)(3) organization. Their service to the community supports the Club slogan: “If you wish to live in a better place\, better the place in which you live.”

SUMMARY:4th of July Flag Raising Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Join community members of all ages in celebrating the founding of our nation in a joyous and patriotic ceremony\, 10 am\, July 4th at Old Settlers Picnic Grounds on Glen Lake. The traditional raising of the flag by the Glen Lake Fire Department will be led by Chief Bryan Ferguson and will be followed by a singalong of well-loved and familiar patriotic songs.  \nGene Kelly\, the featured speaker\, is an author\, retired business owner\, and decorated Army veteran. His speech\, “You Can Help!\,” will explore what we can do to improve our local community as well as our country. He will open with a story by Richard “Dick” Grout about veterans and school children.  Dick\, a decorated World War II veteran\, passed away at the age of 104\, on December 19th\, 2024. Mr Kelly’s most recent book\, Three American Men\, is available exclusively at the Cottage Book Store in Glen Arbor.  \nPastor Melody Olin of Empire United Methodist Church will deliver the Invocation\, and Rob Hansen\, Head of the Leelanau School\, will read the Declaration of Independence.  \nPlease bring your own lawn chairs. The event is sponsored by the Glen Lake Woman’s Club. After the program the chapel at Old Settlers Park will be open for tours.

He will share his views on the importance of a free press to our nation\, especially in times of war and domestic conflict. Before he began working at the Leelanau Enterprise in 1998\, he served for 25 years in the United States Marine Corps as a combat correspondent and a public affairs officer.  He is a veteran of the Vietnam War\, the Persian Gulf War\, and the Somali Civil War.   \nThe Flag Raising Ceremony begins at 10 am\, July 4th\, at the Old Settlers Picnic Grounds\, located on the southeastern shore of Glen Lake near the corner of Dunn’s Farm Rd. (CR 675) and Burdickville Rd (CR 616). Please bring your own lawn chairs. The event is sponsored by Glen Lake Woman’s Club. After the program the chapel at Old Settlers Park will be open for tours. \nThe Glen Lake Woman’s Club was established in 1937 with a mission to foster social\, civic and educational projects. The Club sponsors the Glen Arbor Art Fair to raise funds for Glen Lake Schools student scholarships. Other Club projects include the improvement and beautification of the Chapel and grounds at Old Settlers Park\, organization of this community Flag Raising Ceremony\, and a Christmas party for residents of the Maple Lake Valley Nursing Home.
