SUMMARY:In Bloom Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The wildflowers return to Northern Michigan in April and May – both outside and inside. The Glen Arbor Arts Center [GAAC] presents “In Bloom\,” an exhibition exploring the different ways five local artists interpret the subject of flowers in paint\, mixed media and porcelain. “In Bloom” opens April 6\, 6 p.m. with an artists’ reception. \nPainters Lauren Everett Finn of Honor and Kasson Township resident Carol C. Spaulding look to their gardens and the woods for inspiration. Working in acrylic and mixed media\, Finn brings to “In Bloom” work from her 100 Bouquets series. Spaulding paints in watercolor paint create dream-like impressions of her subject. Rounding out the exhibition is an installation of Forest Flowers\, the award-winning porcelain sculptures created by the late Ananda Bricker\, and her daughters Beth Bricker and Cherrie Bricker Stege\, both Glen Arbor residents. \nIn addition to the exhibition\, the GAAC offers a series of programs that explore in more depth the subject of flowers\, and the “In Bloom” artists’ thinking and creative processes: \n• Talk About Art with Lauren Everett Finn and Carol C. Spaulding on Sunday\, April 15\, 2 p.m. Free.\n• “Art In Bloom\,” an art historical tour of flowers in painting led by Linda Young on Wednesday\, April 18\, noon. Tickets for this Brown Bag BYO talk are $10/ members\, $15/non-members. Please register on line. \n• Talk About Art\, “The Family That Makes Flowers Together …..\,” a conversation with the Bricker Sisters about Forest Flowers\, Sunday\, May 6\, 2 p.m. Free.\n• “In Bloom” continues through May 17. The GAAC is located at 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. The gallery is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. \nFor more information about the exhibition or any of its programs\, please go to the GAAC website\, www.glenarborart.org

SUMMARY:Talk about Art: "Forest Flowers" "In Bloom"
DESCRIPTION:As part of the “In Bloom” exhibition\, the Glen Arbor Arts Center [GAAC] goes into the woods to talk about “Forest Flowers” with Glen Arbor artists and sisters Beth Bricker and Cherrie Bricker Stege on Sunday\, May 6\, 2 p.m. at the next “Talk About Art” conversation. \nIn the 1980s the Brickers and their mother\, the late Ananda Bricker\, created porcelain sculptures of local woodland flowers known as “Forest Flowers.” They were exhibited throughout the Midwest\, and at the Smithsonian Museum\, and became the basis for a home- and art-based business that supported three families. Along the way\, the Brickers found a way to translate their deep love of this area’s flora into an object of beauty. A selection of “Forest Flowers” are part of the “In Bloom\,” an exhibition of flower paintings and sculptures by five local artists. \n“Talk About Art” is free and open to the public. “In Bloom” continues through May 17. SUMMARY:Center Gallery Artist Reception: Barbara Cochran and Margie Guyot
DESCRIPTION:Center Gallery hosts an artists’ reception to open its first exhibition of the 2018 season on Friday\, May 25\, 6-8 p.m. at the gallery: 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. A celebration of the region’s rural life — as seen by painters Barbara Cochran and Margie Guyot — launches Center Gallery’s 2018 season. \nCochran lives on a Leelanau County cider apple farm. Her oil paintings reflect the view outside her studio window\, and celebrate the pastoral beauty of her home county. Although the region is best known for its beaches and lakes\, Cochran chooses to zero in on farmstead life — from its fruits and vegetables to its farmyard creatures. \nGuyot is well known for her atmospheric depictions of farms and fields found along the iconic backroads in Antrim Country\, her home base. She also works in oil\, and paints en plein air\, a technique that challenges the painter to record scenes quickly and on the spot. Center Gallery’s opening exhibition continues through June 28.
