SUMMARY:Plein Air Painters of Northwest Michigan
DESCRIPTION:Plein Air Painters of NW Michigan will be exhibiting over 100 paintings at the historic City Opera House.  The opening reception will be held on Wednesday\, November 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a secondary reception being held in conjunction with Ladies Shopping Night downtown on Thursday\, December 8 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served and both receptions are free and open to the public.  There will be works in a variety of mediums\, oil\, acrylic\, watercolor\, and pastel.  Paintings are priced for holiday shopping and most will be $300.00 or less.  A percentage of each sale benefits the City Opera House.  Hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and also open during ticketed evening and weekend shows.

DESCRIPTION:Auditions are over and Director\, Teddy House\, has selected an outstanding cast for her holiday production of GAAA Readers’ Theater\, <i>The Bishop’s Wife</i>. It’s a tale of a bishop’s struggles at Christmas-time to build a cathedral. While working to raise money for this mighty edifice\, the relationships with his family suffer. When an angel\, Dudley\, is sent to help the bishop\, Henry\, really wonders what this charming Dudley was sent to help with. Will Henry’s love for his family be mended\, or will an angel win out? \nThe cast has Brian Iler as the angel\, Dudley\, Pete LaPlaca as the bishop Jean Jenkins\, as the bishop’s wife\, Karen Ford as Madame Professor and Matilda. Rhonda Richards as Mrs. Hamilton\, Jan Ross as Mr. Magenti\, Debby and Mrs. Martin\, Rob McWatt as the blind man and the cab driver\,Sylvester. SUMMARY:Winter Songs & Carols
DESCRIPTION:Local chamber ensemble Manitou Winds will present an encore performance of their annual Winter Songs & Carols concert on Friday\, December 9\, at 7:30 p.m. As part of the Glen Arbor Art Association’s Manitou Music Festival\, the concert will be held at The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor. Admission is also free\, and a freewill offering will be collected to benefit music and art programs at The Leelanau School. \nSongs of Advent\, winter solstice\, and Christmas will intertwine with poetry and prose\, setting a reflective mood to kick off the holiday season. Five musicians\, nine different instruments will create a colorful collage of musical textures and styles. Two guest vocalists— Christy Burich and Emily Curtin Culler—will join the ensemble for five of the songs. \nIn their final collaboration for the year\, Frankfort artist Ellie Harold will partner with the ensemble. Ellie will display a special exhibition of works inspired by the concert theme at the concert venue.

SUMMARY:Sleeping Bear Dunes Centennial Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Rangers and staff at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will be presenting short films from a number of National Park Service sites December 17th at 12:00pm. This two day film festival will be the final event in our centennial celebration of the National Park Service. \nThe National Park Service will be finishing out the 2016 centennial year with 413 individual park sites. These sites encompass some of the most beautiful and important natural\, cultural and historical resources in the United States. Explore some of these treasured places in a series of National Park Service Films\, each film a reflection of a different national park or national heritage location from around the country. The festival will be held December 17th at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, MI\, starting at 12:00 pm and lasting approximately 2 ½ hours. There is no charge for this program and visitors are welcome to watch as many or few films as they like.

A Southern Italian tradition\, the menu consists of fish and pasta with a fasting from meat for the Roman Catholic holiday. The numerology represents the seven sacraments and seven days of creation.
