SUMMARY:Ranger-led Snowshoe Hikes at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
DESCRIPTION:Come explore Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore) on snowshoes this winter! Join park rangers for a guided snowshoe hike this holiday season and every Saturday throughout the winter. The first hike of the season will be on Saturday\, December 27\, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The snowshoe hikes will continue to be offered every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. through March 7\, 2015. Meet at the National Lakeshore’s Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire. If you don’t have your own snowshoes\, a pair will be loaned at no charge. Participants need only purchase the park entrance pass or have an annual pass to join in the fun. \nReservations are required whether you need to borrow snowshoes or have your own.  Ranger-led snowshoe hikes are limited to 30 participants. Please call 231-326-4700\, ext. 5010\, for details and to make reservations.

DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) âTalk About Artâ series opens its 2015 season with Traverse City author Doug Stanton\, Jan. 29\, 7:30 p.m. at the GAAA\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \n  \nDoug Stanton is a teacher\, lecturer\, and author of the New York Times bestsellers In Harmâs Way and Horse Soldiers\, and the co-founder of the National Writers Series\, a year-round book festival held at the Opera House in downtown Traverse City. His writing has been widely published in Esquire\, The New York Times\, Time and the Washington Post. Stantonâs other notable contribution to the regionâs cultural landscape is as a founding member of the Traverse City Film Festival. On Jan. 29\, Stanton will talk about his writing life and a new book in process â a profile of several young men who found themselves thrown together by the Viet Nam war. \n  \nTalk About Art is a series of conversational interviews with regional artmakers. It is a winter project of the GAAA and focuses on creative practice\, process and making as experienced by a range of visual and performing artists and craftspeople.
