DESCRIPTION:Second episode viewing\, followed by discussion\, in “The Raising of America” documentary series: “Once Upon a Time: When Childcare for All Wasn’t Just a Fairytale.” This film traces the history of legislative efforts to create high quality early childhood services for our country’s young children. It helps us imagine how things might be different if all American children had access to the high quality early care and education that is available in other developed nations. \nThe community is invited to attend a 6:30 pm gathering\, with refreshments\, in the Community Room of the Leelanau Government Center followed by the film at 7:00pm. \nA panel discussion featuring Jim Scherrer of Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan\, Sarah Jane Johnson of Leelanau Children’s Center\, Doug Luciani of Traverse City Chamber of Commerce and Tricia Denton of Samaritan’s Closet will follow the film. DESCRIPTION:Art\, wine and small plate delectables will warm the night as the Glen Arbor Art Association The Homestead\, and Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail team up to offer Art From Michigan’s Wine Country on Friday\, February 6\, 6-8 pm.\nNow in its seventh year at The Homestead’s Mountain Flowers Lodge this fun winter event kicks off Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trails “Taste the Passion” weekend. The Friday night GAAA benefit features an art exhibit and sale of work by local artists\, wine from Leelanau wineries\, and a small plates menu designed by The Homestead’s chef. \n  \nTicket price is $25 per person with advance reservation. Entrance fee includes one glass of wine\, food stations with small plates\, and coffee. Additional wine is available for $4/glass or three glasses for $10. Call The Homestead\, 334-5100\, by February 4 to make an advanced reservation with will call ticket pick up at the event. At the door price is $30 per person the night of the event. \nThe invitational art exhibit and sale offers recent original works by Bob Ashmun\, Jane Batteiger\, Linda Alice Dewey\, Michelle Hart Jahraus\, Christine Nettleton\, Joan Richmond\, Lisa Wilkins Schulte\, and Sally E. DESCRIPTION:Come explore Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore) on snowshoes this winter! Join park rangers for a guided snowshoe hike this holiday season and every Saturday throughout the winter. The first hike of the season will be on Saturday\, December 27\, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The snowshoe hikes will continue to be offered every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. through March 7\, 2015. Meet at the National Lakeshore’s Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire. If you don’t have your own snowshoes\, a pair will be loaned at no charge. Participants need only purchase the park entrance pass or have an annual pass to join in the fun. \nReservations are required whether you need to borrow snowshoes or have your own.  Ranger-led snowshoe hikes are limited to 30 participants.
