It is a story of redemption within the generations of a family.  Naomi and Oliver have recently married and are having difficulties adjusting to their new positions and differing backgrounds.  It is a rocky start but salvaged by an honest course of action taken by their grandchildren who\, without meaning to\, help them adjust to their new life.\n\nThe story takes place on a farm where roots are deep and generations of family inform the past\, present and future. ”God Bless the Child”\, directed by Harriet Mittelberger\,  will be performed June 12\, and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and June 14\, at 3:00 p.m. at GAAA . DESCRIPTION:Center Gallery opens its 2015 May 22 with new works of Up North icons by Traverse City painter Charles Murphy. A public reception for the artist is 6 p.m. at the gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \n  \nMurphy’s new body of work reflects his affinity for classic\, northern Michigan symbols – boats\, barns\, birds and the diverse landscape. He looks for subjects that have a strong “local” presence\, and records them as sketches\, which are later finished in the studio. Murphy’s evocative\, emotive impressions of his homeplace are executed in a richly saturated palette using watercolor\, oil and acrylic. \n  \nTwo artist’s demonstrations are scheduled as part of this exhibition\, June 6 and June 20\, 1 p.m. at Center Gallery. DESCRIPTION:Second episode viewing\, followed by discussion\, in “The Raising of America” documentary series: “Once Upon a Time: When Childcare for All Wasn’t Just a Fairytale.” This film traces the history of legislative efforts to create high quality early childhood services for our country’s young children. It helps us imagine how things might be different if all American children had access to the high quality early care and education that is available in other developed nations. \nThe community is invited to attend a 6:30 pm gathering\, with refreshments\, in the Community Room of the Leelanau Government Center followed by the film at 7:00pm. \nA panel discussion featuring Jim Scherrer of Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan\, Sarah Jane Johnson of Leelanau Children’s Center\, Doug Luciani of Traverse City Chamber of Commerce and Tricia Denton of Samaritan’s Closet will follow the film.
