SUMMARY:Artist In Residence -  Valerie Mann
DESCRIPTION:Fiber artist Valerie Mann will explore and fabricate a new body of work based on grief\, both personal and global\, during her Glen Arbor Arts Center residency June 12 – 25. Mann\, a resident of Saline\, Michigan\, will combine and sew repurposed materials into sculptural pieces. \nEach of the GAAC’s artist-residents offer a conversational presentation at the end of their stay. The presentations begin at noon at the GAAC. They are free\, and open to the public. On June 24 Mann will discuss her multilayered works that explore color\, shape\, negative space and shadows.  \nSince the 1990s\, the GAAC has welcomed visiting artists who want to immerse themselves in their work. The GAAC’s AIR program offers up to seven\, creative practitioners a two-week respite from their daily lives in order to focus on a new idea that needs space\, or to develop an on-going project. See full list of participants below. \nLeland Wine and Food Festival with a Twist! \nDue to continuing construction in the Leland Harbor and Fishtown\, the 35th Leland Wine and Food Festival will take place at The Leland Lodge\, just up the hill from Main St. 5-Ton Tours will be offering rides to and from Leland to The Lodge throughout the duration of the festival to ensure party-goers can easily access local shops and attractions. Many thanks to both the Leland Lodge and 5-Ton Tours for making this event possible. \nCome and Go Entry \nOur ‘Come & Go’ re-entry wristbands allow you to explore our beaches\, unique shops\, galleries\, and Historic Fishtown\, and then return for more festival fun – as often as you like! SUMMARY:Artist In Residence Presentation - Quinn Faylor
DESCRIPTION:The flora and fauna of the Sleeping Bear Dunes will be the focus of Detroit artist Quinn Faylor’s work during their Glen Arbor Arts Center residency May 29 – June 11. Faylor will spend two weeks creating paintings and textile works that continue their exploration of home\, and human relationships to land and the natural world.  \nEach of the GAAC’s artist-residents offer a conversational presentation at the end of their stay. The presentations begin at noon at the GAAC. They are free\, and open to the public. On June 10 Faylor will discuss their residency in a place that stands in stark contrast to their home turf in Detroit.  \nSince the 1990s\, the GAAC has welcomed visiting artists who want to immerse themselves in their work. The GAAC’s AIR program offers up to seven\, creative practitioners a two-week respite from their daily lives in order to focus on a new idea that needs space\, or to develop an on-going project.
