Writing the Arts sessions are September 10\, 17\, 24\, with an open reading on October 1; 10 – 11 am. \nEkphrasis is the time-honored tradition of using the visual arts for literary inspiration. Writing the Arts sessions are free\, but pre-registration is required. The program is open to writers of any skill level\, from emerging-to-advanced. Learn about the life of the early pioneers\, and their landscape as we travel by horse and wagon through the fields and side roads of this significant agricultural community of over 100 years\, with beautiful vistas and farmsteads. \nJuly – October \nFALL SCHEDULE:  SATURDAYS\,  September 24 – October 15   10:30 am \nOur Horses: The stars of the tours are our two Belgium horses Nick and May. You will learn more about the horses on the tour! \n1.25 hour tour costs $28 for adults and $18 for children ages 4-12.  Reservations required. PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY! \nWagon holds 12-14 people. We need a minimum of 5 reservations to conduct the tour. You will receive a confirmation of your tour when the minimum has been reached.

SUMMARY:Artist In Residence Presentation - Ana Spencer
DESCRIPTION:Illinois potter and teacher Ana Spencer will use her Glen Arbor Arts Center residency to get “a fresh take” on her materials and process. Spencer’s residency is Sept. 25 – October 8. During that time she’ll explore process issues such as glazing\, and surface design techniques. \nEach of the GAAC’s artist-residents offer a conversational presentation at the end of their stay. The presentations begin at noon at the GAAC. They are free\, and open to the public. On October 7 Spencer will discuss her new work\, which combines function with ornate finish. \nSince the 1990s\, the GAAC has welcomed visiting artists who want to immerse themselves in their work. The GAAC’s AIR program offers up to seven\, creative practitioners a two-week respite from their daily lives in order to focus on a new idea that needs space\, or to develop an on-going project. As we enter the colder months\, there is no better time to enjoy a cup of coffee! Our event will feature a presentation on coffee tasting called “cupping” – think of it as wine tasting but with coffee. \nThis is a chance to savor different types of the brew\, find out what you like and don’t like\, learn about the different flavor profiles\, and get a greater appreciation of all the work that goes into a good cup of joe. Our presenter for the afternoon will be Chris Rife\, who was a nominee for the Chicago Barista of the Year Award in 2019\, and now works for the Chicago Beveridge Company as the head of education and is the corporate trainer. DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Players are very excited to announce the staging of our new play\, Anatomy of a Murder\, directed by Ron Smith. The play is based on a true story that took place in the Michigan Upper Peninsula in the 1950’s and was written by the defense attorney who actually worked the case and later became a Michigan Supreme Court Justice. \nMr. Smith was quoted as saying “the cast is one of the largest in our twelve year history as well as our most experienced with almost 300 years of collective stage experience. The play will be performed at the Glen Lake Church\, 4902 West Macfarlane\, Glen arbor. Play dates are October 27\, 28 and 29 th at 7:30pm. Admission is free. Goodwill donations are accepted and refreshments will be served. \nThe story is based on the defense of an army lieutenant who was accused of killing a bartender in cold blood who had allegedly raped his wife. The story was made into a movie in 1959 that starred James Stewart\, Lee Remick\, Ben Gazzara\, Eve Arden and George C. Scott. \nThe movie was awarded six (6) Academy Awards and has been lauded as “probably the finest pure trial movie ever made.” The US Library of Congress has preserved the film as being “culturally\, historically and aesthetically significant.”
