SUMMARY:Yoga on the Beach - Glen Haven 7-20
DESCRIPTION:It is time to get your yoga mat or blanket out and head to Glen Haven Beach for Yoga on the Beach! Amy Hubbell is our instructor and there is nothing as soothing as doing yoga on a pristine Lake Michigan beach. \nAmy will lead a session each Friday mornings through August 10. These sessions are held at Glen Haven Beach at 10 AM. \nYoga on the Beach classes are fun\, laid back and suitable for all levels\, even beginner yogis. All classes are 60 minutes\, and we ask for a suggested donation of $10. \n(50% of donations from classes taught at Glen Haven go to the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes for a new Accessible Beach Deck at the Maritime Museum Beach!) \nWe recommend dressing in comfortable layers and bringing plenty of drinking water and a towel or blanket you can stretch out on. Sunscreen and bug spray are always a good idea too.  \nGlen Haven is a restored port village on Lake Michigan about 2 miles west of Glen Arbor off M109\, part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Come down Glen Haven Road until it ends at a big red building (the old cannery)\, turn right to park in the parking lot\, then head toward the water to find us. Donations from classes here will benefit Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes\, a volunteer-driven nonprofit that helps keep our beloved national park clean\, safe and accessible. Note that classes at this location will be cancelled if the weather is too nasty for yoga. If in doubt call/text 231-866-1451

SUMMARY:The Art of Water with Hank Feeley
DESCRIPTION:Artists have been inspired by H2O since its first surprising visualization in the prehistoric African Sahara. Artist Hank Feeley springboards off of this history and into “The Art of Water in 28 ½ Minutes\,” July 19\, 11 am in the Glen Arbor Arts Center gallery\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. This wide- ranging presentation will cover prehistoric visualizations of water\, painting from Leonardo to today’s David Hockney\, sculpture from Bernini to Jaume Plensa\, installation art\, water as a physical material\, architecture\, water inspired music and dance\, digital art\, poetry\, performance art\, and video and film.  \nFeeley is an author\, painter\, and sculptor whose second book Painting the Joy of Sleeping Bear County was published in 2016. He is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Harvard Business School. “The Art of Water in 28 ½ Minutes” is offered as part of the GAAC’s exhibition “New Views: Water = Life = Art\,” which continues through August 4. Newman Rd.\, Maple City \nSaturday\, July 14 th\, 10am – noon \n  \nLooking for any memorabilia about the Leelanau County Poor Farm\, located west of Maple City on Burdickville Road\, across from Myles Kimmerly Park. Between 1900 and 1960\, this working farm housed up to 20 residents at a time who helped to operate the farm. In addition\, the farm had a managing family living there and some hired help. We are looking for any stories\, photos or items from this farm which was referred to as the County Farm by the community. You are our link to documenting this important history. If you have stories and would consider sharing we would like you to join us at Kasson Township Hall for our first Discovery Day. With your permission we would like to scan and document these photos\, take notes and/or audio record your recollections. This information then will be organized\, catalogued\, stored and made publicly available at the Leelanau Historical Society Museum as a part of the Leelanau County Poor Farm Collection. Leelanau County Historic Preservation Society is hosting this event in junction with Empire Area History Group and Leelanau Historical Museum. \nThe second Discovery Day will be held with the Coleman Family on July 28\, 2018 from 10am to 12 noon also at Kasson Township Hall. Their relatives George and Mabel (Ashmore) Coleman managed the farm from 1925 to 1960. These grandchildren have fond and detailed memories of their time spent every weekend at the farm. They look forward to sharing these stories and their family photographs that day. \nThese events have been partially funded by Michigan Humanities Council and National Humanities Endowment. \nFurther information\, or if are you unable to attend but still want to add your memories\, please contact Barbara Siepker 231-334-4395 siepker@aol.com

SUMMARY:Yoga on the Beach - Glen Haven 7-13
