DESCRIPTION:How do artists think\, work\, and practice? Those questions are explored during Creativity Q+A LIVE\, a series of conversations with Northern Michigan artists at the Glen Arbor Arts Center. On April 23\, 1 pm Leelanau County artist Angela Saxon talks about her practice with Sarah Bearup-Neal\, GAAC gallery manager. The program is free. No reservations are required. Doors open at noon. \nSaxon is a self-described “mark maker.” That’s her calling\, and the basis of her creative practice\, which is about seeing more\, getting beyond the surface of things\, and depicting layers of time in her paintings\, prints and drawings. The materials she uses don’t define her. She moves fluidly between them\, looking for the best combination of tools and processes to interpret the local landscape’s ephemeral essence. \nCreativity Q+A LIVE is an offshoot of the GAAC’s online feature\, Creativity Q+A. Since 2020\, the GAAC has published monthly\, long-form interviews that dig into artists’ creative practices. Saxon’s conversation was published in March 2021. DESCRIPTION:All five panels from the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s 2022 Outdoor Gallery exhibition will be available for acquisition. The GAAC is holding an online auction April 25 – 27. The 5-foot square artworks are reproductions of original\, acrylic paintings by Carrie Hensel\, the Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, winner of the 2022 Outdoor Gallery competition. \nOnline bidding begins April 25\, 9 am\, and concludes on April 27\, 2 pm. Opening bids start at $600/panel minimum on these four panels: Revisit The Pines\, Birches In October\, Wintry Woods\, and Twilight On Bear Lake. Note: The opening bid for the Morning Sun On Trilliums panel begins at $500. In Summer 2022 there was an unsuccessful attempt to steal this panel\, which resulted in some surface damage: several linear scratches\, and two “dents” along the top edge of the panel. They now hang on the GAAC’s exterior walls\, and may be viewed at any time. DESCRIPTION:Pianist Tyler Faruzzi brings music to the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Main Gallery on April 28 for a lunch hour twofer: his take on some pop standards with the GAAC’s SWIMMING exhibition as the backdrop. The one-hour casual concert begins at noon. It’s open to the public at no charge. \nFaruzzi\, 18\, is a senior at The Leelanau School who has focused on music. However\, learning takes place in the classroom and out\, said Laura Hood\, chairperson of Leelanau School’s Visual and Performing Arts department. \n“At The Leelanau School\, one of our mottos is ‘let your talents and abilities shine.’ So having my students share their music with our Leelanau School community and the Glen Arbor and Traverse City area is a wonderful way to let their talents and abilities shine and for others to experience some of the amazing students we have\,” Hood said. \nA resident of Elmhurst\, Illinois\, Faruzzi\, will attend Elmhurst University this fall. \nVisitors may bring their lunch\, walk freely around the gallery\, and sit and listen as long they wish.
