A must see. Vintage cars\, tractors\, hit and miss engines\, and much more fill the grounds around the museum along with old fashion craft and food demonstrations making this a fun filled afternoon for the whole family.  Enjoy our woodworking shop\, blacksmith shop\, turn of the century saloon\, one room school\, fire house and barn filled with many pieces of horse drawn equipment. \n \nWe have just received the Roen’s family 1919 Allen car completely rebuilt and donated to our museum by Glenn Allen of Northport who bought it at the Roen auction in 1985. This is a must see addition!!. \n  \n• Historic walking tours of the village will take place during the afternoon.  \n• Music of all kinds will fill the air for your enjoyment.\n• A beautiful hand crafted quilt by the “Empire Quilters” will be raffled at 3:30PM…Tickets will be available!!\n \nAdmission is free and donations are encouraged!!!\n  \nPlease bring the whole family and help us celebrate our 45th Anniversary.\n

SUMMARY:Readers' Theatre: On Golden Pond
DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association [GAAA] Readers’ Theater will hold auditions for On Golden Pond\, Sept. 6\, 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church\, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road in Burdickville. The Readers’ Theater production offers roles for three men\, two women\, one teenage boy and a narrator. \nErnest Thompson’s 1979 play focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer\, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place\, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé Billy Ray and his son Billy Ray Jr. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up\, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage. \nOn Golden Pond is directed by Ron Smith\, and is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service\, Inc.\, New York. It will be staged at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church on Oct. 20-21. Reservations suggested. Free to attend\, Donations Accepted. DESCRIPTION:The local community and visitors are invited to enjoy this celebration of fall\, one of our favorite seasons in Leelanau. \nSaturday\, October 21st\, 2017 | 12 – 4pm\nFun fall family & pet-friendly activities with live music during Pumpkin Fest will be held this year at the Glen Arbor Township Park (located at the corner of  M-22 & State Street). Expect peak colors for fall color tours\, shopping\, dining and a nice weekend to enjoy outdoor recreation. Free to attend but asking a $5 Donation per child to participate in the organize activities. \n \nPumpkin Carving is open to kids & adults of all ages! Pumpkins will be provided to carve your masterpieces. Later\, the Pumpkins will be placed the corner of the park to show off a spectacle of the lit up creations just before dusk. \n \nList of Activities & Times\nThe fun begins at Noon\, with Games\, Pumpkin Carving\, a Craft Table and Face Painting. The Jack Pine Band returns for live music performance all afternoon as well.  \nAt 1:00 p.m. is the Costume Parade\, with Prizes given in a range of ages and categories.   \nFollowing at 1:30 p.m. is a Pet Costume Parade with prizes\, also in a range of categories.   \nThen at 3:00 p.m. there will be the Pie Eating Contest with prizes for kids\, teens\, and adults. Moved to pity by the Christmas season\, New York District Attorney John Sargent lets pretty shoplifter Lee Leander out on bail and offers her a ride home to Indiana. They end up meeting each others’ parents\, and then Cupid becomes judge and jury. The 1940’s film version was written by playwright Preston Sturges\, who elevated the romantic\, screwball comedy genre to new levels of intelligence and maturity; and starred Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. \nReaders’ Theater veteran Teddy House directs “Remember The Night.” Scripts are available to review at the GAAA offices during business hours. DESCRIPTION:The Manitou Winds presents its annual “Winter Songs & Carols” concert on Friday\, December 8\, 7:30 p.m. at the Leelanau School\, 1 Old Homestead Road\, Glen Arbor. This performance is sponsored by the Glen Arbor Art Association’s [GAAA] Manitou Music Festival. \nThis year’s program features songs of Advent\, Winter Solstice\, and Christmas intertwined with readings of poetry and prose. Manitou Winds is comprised of five musicians playing 12 different instruments to create a collage of music textures and styles. Joining the Manitou Winds are guest vocalists Christy Burich and Emily Curtin Culler. DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Arts Center [formerly Glen Arbor Art Association] Readers’ Theater will hold auditions for two Sam Spade plays on Wednesday\, Feb. 21\, 2018\, 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church\, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road\, in Burdickville. \nThis Readers’ Theater production offers roles for 19 adults – a minimum of eight men\, and 11 women. One of the male roles requires a French accent. One of the female roles\nrequires an Italian accent. In this pair of Spades\, “The John Doe Caper” and “The Flopsy\, Mopsy and Cottontail Caper\,” Dashiell Hammett’s fictional detective finds himself matching wits with a range of colorful criminals and characters. The plays will be directed by Readers’ Theater veteran Harriett Mittelberger. \nRehearsals will take place on Wednesdays. Performances are April 13 – 14\, 7:30 p.m. at the church. DESCRIPTION:March is national Youth Art Month. The Glen Arbor Arts Center [GAAC] celebrates the work of young creatives with an exhibition by Glen Lake Elementary School sixth graders taught by Leah Lawson\, Glen Lake Elementary art teacher\, and the GAAC’s After School Art kids led by instructor Sarah Cheek-Toomey. DESCRIPTION:Flowers are one of the most enduring and beloved subjects in the painting world\, but what’s their attraction? As part of the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s “In Bloom” exhibition\, two local painters who have created large bodies of work based on flowers will explore the attractions at the next “Talk About Art.\,” Sunday April 15\, 2 pm at the GAAC\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \nGAAC Gallery Manager Sarah Bearup-Neal will talk with “In Bloom” exhibitors Lauren Everett Finn of Honor\, and Kasson Township resident Carol C. Spaulding about their attraction to flowers. Finn brings to “In Bloom” work from her “100 Bouquets” series\, a self-assigned project to depict flowers – both real and imaginary – in acrylic paint\, oil stick\, pencil and a range of other media. Spaulding draws inspiration from her large\, home flower garden. For this painter\, flowers provide a ready subject and a chance to explore the wide range of color and shape they naturally offer. \n“Talk About Art” is free and open to the public. \n“In Bloom\,” an exhibition of floral paintings and sculpture\, continues through May 17. DESCRIPTION:Art lecturer Linda Young explores how artist have depicted flowers in paintings throughout the history of Western Art in “Art In Bloom\,” a Brown Bag BYO art history talk on April 18\, at Noon at the Glen Arbor Arts Center\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \n“Art In Bloom” is a lunch hour talk. Young will highlight paintings from the early Renaissance to contemporary times\, with stops along the way to view work by the Dutch Masters\, Monet and the Impressionists\, as well as Georgia O’Keeffe\, Miriam Shapiro\, and Andy Warhol. Young’s talk will include a gallery tour of works in the GAAC’s “In Bloom\,” an exhibition of floral paintings and sculptures by five local artists. \nLinda Young\, a Glen Arbor resident\, was director of Museum Education at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts for 20 years. She has presented art history lectures and docent trainings in museums and art center throughout the Midwest.  \nSeats for “Art In Bloom” are $10/GAAC members\, and $15/non-members. DESCRIPTION:The Manitou Winds bring song and good conversation to the Glen Arbor Art Association on Sunday\, April 22\, 2 p.m. in the next installment in the GAAC’s “Talk About Art” series. Leelanau County musician Norm Wheeler leads the conversation with the members of this chamber music group. The event is free and open to the public. \nFounded in May 2014\, the Manitou Winds is a versatile chamber ensemble\, which doesn’t confine itself to performing solely as a wind quintet. The group often explores unexpected genres\, and spotlights new or obscure composers. Norm Wheeler will engage members of the group in conversation about their collaborative process\, and explore how these working musicians integrate their lives with their art. DESCRIPTION:As part of the “In Bloom” exhibition\, the Glen Arbor Arts Center [GAAC] goes into the woods to talk about “Forest Flowers” with Glen Arbor artists and sisters Beth Bricker and Cherrie Bricker Stege on Sunday\, May 6\, 2 p.m. at the next “Talk About Art” conversation. \nIn the 1980s the Brickers and their mother\, the late Ananda Bricker\, created porcelain sculptures of local woodland flowers known as “Forest Flowers.” They were exhibited throughout the Midwest\, and at the Smithsonian Museum\, and became the basis for a home- and art-based business that supported three families. Along the way\, the Brickers found a way to translate their deep love of this area’s flora into an object of beauty. A selection of “Forest Flowers” are part of the “In Bloom\,” an exhibition of flower paintings and sculptures by five local artists. \n“Talk About Art” is free and open to the public. “In Bloom” continues through May 17.
