SUMMARY:Talk About Art: Painter Joan Richmond
DESCRIPTION:Traverse City painter Joan Richmond spent Spring 2015 and 2016 as a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome. She reflects on these experiences at the next “Talk About Art” interview\, Sunday\, April 24\, 2 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Art Association\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. Richmond’s month-long residencies were built around her plan to walk in the footsteps of Jean-Baptiste Corot\, a pivotal figure in mid-19th Century landscape painting; then paint some of his iconic subjects using 21st Century tools from the perspective of a modern artist. Richmond will discuss her working Roman holiday\, why an artist undertakes a residency\, its benefits\, and the ways in which it can influence one’s practice.

SUMMARY:Talk About Art: Painter Lauren Everett Finn
DESCRIPTION:Honor\, Michigan\, painter Lauren Everett Finn set a goal of painting 100 flower bouquets in 2016. She saw the project as a way to challenge herself by imposing limits on her subject matter. Finn discusses this project at the next “Talk About Art” interview\, Sunday\, March 20\, 2 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Art Association\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \n  \nThe concept of working in a series is a time-honored practice for studio artists who want to explore a subject deeply and thoroughly. Finn will talk about her work and how this series has helped her stretch her creative muscles. She works in both representational and abstract subjects\, with acrylic paint and mixed media collage.

SUMMARY:Mostly Music Series: 70 Years of Jazz – Bebop and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Back in the 1970’s\, Bob Foskett saw a need for a music history course that dealt specifically with Jazz when he discovered that most music history classes\, if they covered jazz at all\, stopped with Benny Goodman and the music of the 1930’s and ignored the music that became the foundation for what is called Jazz today. “70 years of Jazz in 90 minutes”\, is a highly compressed version of the semester long course that Bob developed for the largest community college in Illinois. With recorded examples he’ll follow the evolution of Jazz\, and also show how Jazz works. Bob Foskett\, programmed jazz radio in Chicago for 30 years and is now a DJ for Friday Morning Jazz at WNMC in Traverse City. Programs will be roughly 60% music\, 40% discussion.

SUMMARY:Live Entertainment with Levi Britton
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Beppi’s at The Homestead for live entertainment from renowned Levi Britton. \nLevi Britton is an indie/folk/rock artist who hails from Traverse City\, MI.  Growing up around music sparked his drive to make it his profession. At age 20 Levi moved to Chicago\, playing down in the subways\, Potbelly restaurants\, and any gig he could find.  Eventually Britton co-founded his band\, Down the Line that went on to release 5 albums\, and toured the country for ten years with artists such as The Gin Blossoms\, Pat Benatar\, Peter Frampton\, America\, Keith Anderson\, Lighthouse\, and others. \nIn 2011\, Levi and DTL band mate Dan Myers formed Stolen Silver\, releasing two albums—most recently in June 2014.  Stolen Silver has recently been touring with actor Gary Sinise and The Lieutenant Dan Band\, playing stadiums and military bases in support of U.S. troops and their families. \nIn addition to playing with Stolen Silver\, 2014 launched Levi’s solo career at a whole new level.  After years of fans clamoring for a solo project\, Levi hit the studio to record all new\, original music.  His first solo record\, “Inside” is set to be released in mid-2015. \nBeppi’s serves artisan pizzas and a limited menu from Nonna’s\, craft beer\, wine and liquor.
