SUMMARY:Virtual Glen Arbor Holiday Marketplace 2020
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the well attended and anticipated Glen Arbor Holiday Marketplace has gone virtual. Like many events this season being cancelled due to covid-19\, the Glen Lake Chamber decided to find a way to hold this shopping event online. “We didn’t want to miss a beat. Whether we pick up the event in person next year or not\, we can continue to use the work we’re putting in now and be able to also host it online for years to come\,” explains Patricia Widmayer\, the event coordinator for the Chamber and owner of Glen Arbor Bed & Breakfast and Cottages. While normally we host 25-30 artists in person at the Town Hall with 1\,700 people attending\, we have about 17 artisans participating to sell their goods online or by phone/email. “With the help of our already strong event following and marketing\, we expect this year to still be a success for all who participate.”  Patricia is working closely with fellow artisan and friend Carol Murray\, who is helping with the planning and execution of this event.  \nThe Glen Lake Chamber will be using a Facebook page to post updates and to connect the participating artisans with interested shoppers. Instead of just one day of in-person shopping\, this year artisans can reach shoppers for over 1 month. The event will be open and live from November 7th – December 18th. In light of the Holiday Market being cancelled\, plus the impossibility to social distance\, we decided it would be fun to make a video to post instead\, while cancelling the in-person event. Marketing director and local resident\, Raquel Jackson shares\, “It’s been necessary to make decisions that impact public events for the concern of keeping everyone safe\, but I hated to see this joy-filled tradition not happen. Video was the obvious answer to alternatively host the event. We were so pleased when we reached out to the Glen Lake Church and they agreed to help us make it possible. I love the simplicity of the event and the way it brings people together of all ages and beliefs. It will be awesome to see this holiday tradition bring a bit of love and light in a new way.” \nThe Glen Lake Chamber purchased new LED lights to re-decorate the trees that will be strung up by the Glen Lake Fire Department. Plus\, members from Glen Lake Church’s worship team will perform carols with the lighting of the tree\, while a local will provide professional video support. Artists work quickly to capture the setting sun (Weather permitting). These paintings will be on view and for purchase on Friday evening sale at the Glen Arbor Town Hall. Admission is Free. \nThe 12th year of Northern Michigan’s premier painting weekend featuring artists from throughout Michigan and the Midwest. Highlights include three painting events for Artists culminating in two art exhibits and the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s largest fundraiser. The event attracts hundreds of art collectors eager to purchase the original artworks. Almost half of all proceeds go to the Glen Arbor Arts Center.

DESCRIPTION:Due to social distancing restrictions and public safety\, the Glen Lake Women’s Club Art Fair has been cancelled for this year.\n\n49th Annual Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair\nWednesday\, July 15th\, 2020 from 10 am – 4 pm\, outside at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. \nThe Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair hosts 100 artists carefully selected to represent up-north\, one-of-a kind art pieces for sale at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. The juried Art Fair features pottery\, painting\, textiles\, woodworking\, and jewelry\, as well as face painting\, a raffle\, and a bake sale. Lunch is available for purchase on site including the popular walking tacos and cherry chicken salad. DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Glen Lake Community Library will their annual used book sale Aug. 7-9 at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. This three-day fundraising event offers gently used books for adults and children in more than 50 categories\, games\, and puzzles\, as well as DVDs and CDs. This year the Friends have an extraordinary selection of beautiful coffee table books.  \nThe sale is scheduled as follows: \nWednesday\, Aug. 7\, 6 -9 pm | Preview Party ~ $5 Donation \nThis special event gives you the first chance to peruse and choose from thousands of hardcover and paperback books\, CDs\, DVDs\, and games and puzzles. Refreshments include homemade hors d’oeuvres and sweet treats. \nThursday\, Aug. 8\, 10 am-7 pm | Book Sale ~ Free Admission \nOn Thursday\, the sale is open to the public free of charge. Everyone can select from various items at very reasonable prices. Everything is neatly categorized in more than 50 subject areas\, including many children’s books. \nFriday\, August 9\, 9 am-3 pm | Bag Day ~ Free Admission \nThis last half day offers the best bargains. Fill a standard grocery bag full of books and pay just $5. \nFunds raised by the Friends contribute to ongoing programs\, such as the preschool children’s “Stories and More\,” general and special collections\, as well as future capital needs of the Glen Lake Community Library. This year the Friends have underwritten the purchase of scores of DVDs to replace popular VHS tapes as well as upgrades from Cassettes to CDs for many Audio Books.
