SUMMARY:Live Entertainment with Levi Britton
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Beppi’s at The Homestead for live entertainment from renowned Levi Britton. \nLevi Britton is an indie/folk/rock artist who hails from Traverse City\, MI.  Growing up around music sparked his drive to make it his profession. At age 20 Levi moved to Chicago\, playing down in the subways\, Potbelly restaurants\, and any gig he could find.  Eventually Britton co-founded his band\, Down the Line that went on to release 5 albums\, and toured the country for ten years with artists such as The Gin Blossoms\, Pat Benatar\, Peter Frampton\, America\, Keith Anderson\, Lighthouse\, and others. \nIn 2011\, Levi and DTL band mate Dan Myers formed Stolen Silver\, releasing two albums—most recently in June 2014.  Stolen Silver has recently been touring with actor Gary Sinise and The Lieutenant Dan Band\, playing stadiums and military bases in support of U.S. troops and their families. \nIn addition to playing with Stolen Silver\, 2014 launched Levi’s solo career at a whole new level.  After years of fans clamoring for a solo project\, Levi hit the studio to record all new\, original music.  His first solo record\, “Inside” is set to be released in mid-2015. \nBeppi’s serves artisan pizzas and a limited menu from Nonna’s\, craft beer\, wine and liquor.

DESCRIPTION:Miriam Pico has been writing songs and performing since she was barely able to walk. She sings\, plays guitar\, ukulele and even whistles! She recently starred in Traverse City Old Town Playhouse’s sold out production of “Evita.” She has released three CDs. David Chown has been playing piano professionally for over 25 years. He’s equally adept at playing jazz and popular music. David has released seven CDs on his own label and teaches over 40 piano students in addition to teaching Audio Technology at Northwestern Michigan College. Miriam and David have been part of the Traverse City music scene since 2007. At the GAAA\, you’ll be able to witness them having a lot of fun with popular standards\, jazz\, and original compositions. \nThe “Mostly Music” series brought to you by the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA)\, is a winter extension of the Manitou Music Festival. Smaller groups (1 or 2 artists) perform in the GAAA gallery\, but also spend some time talking about their music. The GAAA\, 6031 S. Lake Street in Glen Arbor\, provides a more intimate setting than our larger outdoor concerts that allows the audience much closer contact with the musicians. “Mostly Music” will be hosted by Bob Foskett\, who programmed jazz radio in Chicago for 30 years and is now a DJ for Friday Morning Jazz at WNMC in Traverse City. \nAdmission is $10 and prepaid reservations are recommended due to limited seating capacity. Please note that actual tickets will not be issued. Your name will be added to a list at the door when prepaying. Based on availability\, you can also pay at the door.

Here is the contact info if you can help out: www.dunedash.com\, or contact TART Trails at info@traversetrails.org or 231-941-4300. \nTraverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails (TART)\, Inc. is a proud partner of the 4th annual Dune Dash\, a 4-mile run/walk along the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail (SBHT)\, to be held at 9 a.m. this Saturday\, August 15\, 2015 at the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb. The course showcases the trail\, which opened during summer of 2012 within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. \nThe Dune Dash is organized by the creators of the Zombie Run\, with support from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and TART Trails. According to Matt Ross\, the founder and coordinator of the event\, “If you are not familiar with the SBHT\, participating in the Dune Dash is the perfect time to experience and support the trail.”   \nThe event is on as scheduled despite last Sunday’s storm which knocked down hundreds of trees and rendered the trail impassable. The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes volunteer crews have been working with National Parks Service all week to clear the trail. The run/walk starts and finishes at the Dune Climb and follows the flat paved trail\, passing by rolling sand dunes and scenic forest before turning around near Glen Haven. The only stretch of the SBHT that remains closed is between Glen Haven and Glen Arbor which will not affect the event. \nAll registered participants will receive a t-shirt\, professionally timed results\, and refreshments. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers\, and age-group winners. Packet pick up and late registration will be held on Friday\, August 14th from 5pm-7pm at the Filling Station Microbrewery in Traverse City. There will be no day of registration (In accordance to federal law\, day of registration cannot take place within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore.) Registration ranges from $15-30 per person based on age and prices go up $5 after Thursday\, August 13th. \nProceeds from the event support the continued development of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. The event has raised $7\,500 to date for trail support. For more information on the Dune Dash visit www.dunedash.com\, or contact TART Trails at info@traversetrails.org or 231-941-4300

SUMMARY:Port Oneida Heritage Run
DESCRIPTION:The 6th annual run through the beautiful scenery of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore supports preservation of the Park’s historic resources. Afterwards\, take a swim on the beautiful beaches in the National Lakeshore! Run with your friends\, family\, or come to cheer them on. Professional Chip Timing! \nLocation is the Charles Olsen farmstead at 3164 W. Harbor Hwy (M-22)\, 3 miles north of Glen Arbor\, just west of Port Oneida Road. \nRegistration by July 15th – $28 \nAfter July 15th – $33 \nOnline registration at https://events.bytepro.net/PortOneidaRun closes Thursday\, July 30\, 5pm.  Walk-on registrations are welcome. \nKids Schoolhouse Dash – $5 (no pre-registration): Children ages 9 and under can start the day off with a 1/4 mile Schoolhouse Dash from the Olsen barn to the historic one-room schoolhouse on the Bayview trail. \nDownloadable registration forms and more information are available at www.phsb.org or by calling Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear at 231-334-6103.
