SUMMARY:Cross Country Tournament at Manitou Passage Golf Club
DESCRIPTION:What\, you may ask\, is a Cross Country Golf Tournament? \nA Cross Country Tournament is basically the same as a regular 4 person best ball\, except that we are have taken the liberty of re-designing the holes (not literally).  Instead of playing the holes as they currently are laid out\, you will play them not only in a different order\, but to different locations as well.  For example\, you may be starting out teeing off from the #1 tee box\, but your target green will be #17 instead of #1.  You might then proceed to #8 tee box and play to #7 green.  You get the picture…we will be playing a total of 9 holes. \nKeep one thing in mind\, the number 1 goal of this tournament is to “Have fun!” This is a goofy format and there will be some goofy scores\, but it will also give a chance to say “Thank You” to those who have supported us this season. \nFormat: \n\n4 person best shot\n\nStart Time:\n\n10am shotgun start\n\nFees:\n\n\n$36 per person\, non-members\n$18 per person\, members\n\nIncludes:\n\n\n9 holes of golf\nCart\nLunch\nPrizes!  (Let’s just say that the prizes are not your conventional gift certificates.  And\, remember…this is for fun!)\n\nAdvance registration is required by September 2\, 2016. SUMMARY:Music on the Mountain - Levi Britton
DESCRIPTION:Levi Britton is an indie/folk/rock artist who hails from Traverse City\, MI.  Growing up around music sparked his drive to make it his profession. At age 20 Levi moved to Chicago\, playing down in the subways\, Potbelly restaurants\, and any gig he could find.  Eventually Britton co-founded his band\, Down the Line that went on to release 5 albums\, and toured the country for ten years with artists such as The Gin Blossoms\, Pat Benatar\, Peter Frampton\, America\, Keith Anderson\, Lighthouse\, and others. \nIn 2011\, Levi and DTL band mate Dan Myers formed Stolen Silver\, releasing two albums—most recently in June 2014.  Stolen Silver has recently been touring with actor Gary Sinise and The Lieutenant Dan Band\, playing stadiums and military bases in support of U.S. troops and their families. \nIn addition to playing with Stolen Silver\, 2014 launched Levi’s solo career at a whole new level.  After years of fans clamoring for a solo project\, Levi hit the studio to record all new\, original music.  His first solo record\, “Inside” is set to be released in mid-2015. \nTickets are $15 in advance\, $20 at the door \nTo purchase tickets\, call 231.334.5100 or visit mynorthtickets.com

SUMMARY:Talk About Art: Kathleen Stocking's 'Long Arc'
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning essayist Kathleen Stocking discusses her new memoir\, The Long Arc of the Universe – Travels Beyond the Pale\, July 28\, 7 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Art Association\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. The summer edition of the GAAA’s “Talk About Art” series brings the Leelanau County writer back to her home turf to discuss the world travels that became this new work of creative nonfiction. “Talk About Art”®\, now in its eighth year\, is a series of free conversational interviews with area artists. No reservations are required. \nThe Long Arc of the Universe\, published in 2016\, is the newest installment in a trilogy of collected essays. The first book\, Letters from the Leelanau in 1991\, stays close to home on the Leelanau Peninsula. Lake Country in 1994 explores the author’s experiences from Ann Arbor to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. Like the two previous books\, this one begins in\, and always returns to\, Lake Leelanau. However\, in The Long Arc of the Universe\, Stocking takes us all over the world: to California\, where she taught writing in the state prison system; to El Salvador\, where she taught the children of the ruling oligarchs; to Thailand and Romania\, where she was a teacher mentor with the Peace Corps; and to London\, to research her family’s English roots. \nStocking grew up above Sleeping Bear Bay in Glen Arbor\, the daughter of lumberman Pierce Stocking\, a veteran of the Civilian Conservation Corps\, whose name graces the scenic drive in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore\, and Eleanor Stocking\, the head of the English Department at the Traverse City High School through the 1960s and 1970s. Stocking holds a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan and an M.F.A. from Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. She has received numerous awards over the years for her writing. Stocking’s essays have been paired with work by E. B. White and Annie Dillard in four major college textbooks and praised for her easy-going style and pithy observations.
