SUMMARY:Yoga on the Beach - Glen Haven 8-10
DESCRIPTION:It is time to get your yoga mat or blanket out and head to Glen Haven Beach for Yoga on the Beach! Amy Hubbell is our instructor and there is nothing as soothing as doing yoga on a pristine Lake Michigan beach. \nAmy will lead a session each Friday mornings through August 10. These sessions are held at Glen Haven Beach at 10 AM. \nYoga on the Beach classes are fun\, laid back and suitable for all levels\, even beginner yogis. All classes are 60 minutes\, and we ask for a suggested donation of $10. \n(50% of donations from classes taught at Glen Haven go to the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes for a new Accessible Beach Deck at the Maritime Museum Beach!) \nWe recommend dressing in comfortable layers and bringing plenty of drinking water and a towel or blanket you can stretch out on. Sunscreen and bug spray are always a good idea too.  \nGlen Haven is a restored port village on Lake Michigan about 2 miles west of Glen Arbor off M109\, part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Come down Glen Haven Road until it ends at a big red building (the old cannery)\, turn right to park in the parking lot\, then head toward the water to find us. Donations from classes here will benefit Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes\, a volunteer-driven nonprofit that helps keep our beloved national park clean\, safe and accessible. Note that classes at this location will be cancelled if the weather is too nasty for yoga. If in doubt call/text 231-866-1451

SUMMARY:Yoga on the Beach - Glen Haven 7-20
SUMMARY:Star Party June 14 from 9 to 11
DESCRIPTION:The sky is the limit at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.  Join park rangers and astronomers from the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society (GTAS) on Saturday\, July 14 at the Dune Climb parking lot. On that date\, two events will offer you opportunities to focus on the sky. The first event is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will allow visitors to safely view our closest star\, the sun\, using a solar telescope. The second event will be from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Feel free to hike up the dunes at the Dune Climb during the event\, watch a sunset at 9:29 p.m.\, and rejoin the rangers and astronomers in the parking lot at the base of the dunes. \nTake advantage of the very young moon to relax under the stars\, view distant celestial objects\, observe Venus\, Jupiter\, and Saturn. Mars will make its appearance around 11:00 p.m. \n \nEach event will feature drop-in stations for you to visit at your leisure. Be sure to stop by the ranger greeter table in the parking lot at the Dune Climb for more information about the stations and their locations. Visit with Friends of Sleeping Bear! We will have a table next to the NPS table.\n \nAt the Dune Climb\, please park in the row furthest from the dunes with your headlights facing M-109. Overflow parking\, within easy walking distance to the Dune Climb\, is in the Great Lakes Picnic Area. The picnic area entrance is located just south of the entrance to the Dune Climb. Follow the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail from the parking area to the Dune Climb. Volunteers will be assisting with parking at both locations.\n \nAll sky programs offered by the National Lakeshore are free. Participants need only purchase the park entrance pass or have an annual pass displayed in their vehicle to join in the fun. Programs will be cancelled if the sky is not visible due to weather conditions. The decision to cancel is usually made two hours in advance. Please call 231-326-4700\, ext. 5005\, for a voicemail message with the decision. \n \nFor all evening astronomy events\, bring a flashlight for the walk back to your car and bug spray\, if needed. You are welcome to bring your own binoculars\, beach chairs\, and blankets for a more comfortable experience\, and water is always recommended for National Park Service (NPS) programs. Park rangers and GTAS staff will wear red glow necklaces or bracelets at the events. For more information about the GTAS\, go to http://www.gtastro.org\n \nThis event is the perfect opportunity to “Find Your Park” in the stars. Starry night skies and natural darkness are important components of the special places the NPS protects. National parks hold some of the last remaining harbors of darkness and provide an excellent opportunity to experience this endangered resource.

SUMMARY:Remember the Night / GAAA Reader's Theater performance
DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association [GAAA] Readers’ Theater to perform “Remember The Night”\nThis Readers’ Theater production offers roles for 4-6 men\, 4-6 women\, and other miscellaneous characters. Some roles may be cast regardless of gender. “Remember The Night” is a love story that starts in a court of law. It’s a heartwarming Christmas-time show that skillfully blends touching drama with comedy. Moved to pity by the Christmas season\, New York District Attorney John Sargent lets pretty shoplifter Lee Leander out on bail and offers her a ride home to Indiana. They end up meeting each others’ parents\, and then Cupid becomes judge and jury. The 1940’s film version was written by playwright Preston Sturges\, who elevated the romantic\, screwball comedy genre to new levels of intelligence and maturity; and starred Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. \nReaders’ Theater veteran Teddy House directs “Remember The Night.” \nSTAGED:\nAt Glen Lake Community Reformed Church on December 8 – 9\, 2017\nThe GAAA is open 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
