DESCRIPTION:Yes\, this is the 10th Birthday for the Glen Arbor Women’s Club “Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & 1/2 Mile Kids’ Run.”\n\nJoin us for the celebration on Tuesday\, July 26th\, at 9:00 a.m. in front of Cherry Republic on Lake St. in Glen Arbor\, Michigan.  This is a favorite event for both local residents and visitors.  The 5K is open to everyone.  You can run or walk so our young runners and our seniors can both take part.  We’ve made it a family affair with our 1/2 Mile Kids’ Run for the little ones.  The children get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon along with coupons for an ice cream cone from Riverfront Ice Cream and a game of miniature golf provided by Dale’s Putt-Putt.  So bring the whole family and enjoy a great morning!\n\nThe main focus of this event is to earn money for scholarships for our great high school seniors.  This year we gave out six scholarships each for $2000.00.  They were awarded to Rowan James Brady\, Anne Marie Dunklow\, Chris Lodge\, Garrett Schaub\, Seneca Stairs and Jolene Therrien.  Congratulations Seniors!  The Glen Arbor Women’s Club is extremely proud to have given out over $100\,000.00 in scholarship money during these 10 years.\n\nBe sure to arrive early and join us at 8:40 a.m. for a warm-up for our runners and walkers by Lorie Lenhard\, from Lorie’s Pilates located in the Village Sampler.  Local entertainer Pat Niemesto from the group New Third Coast and Cherry Republic’s own Lexi Galla will start the run with the National Anthem.  Our Mascot\, Running Bear\, will be on hand to cheer on all the runners and charm the children.  He loves his photo shots!\n\n\nour winner in 2015\, Zach Ripley crossing the finish line\n\n\nThe 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. and the Kids’ Run will follow at 9:05 a.m.  The run will leave from the corner of Lake and State Streets.  After the run\,  join the “Celebration!”  The 1st and 2nd place winners of 10 age categories as well as the male and female over-all best winners will be announced.  They will all receive metals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and the Cyclery.  We will have lots of great food and a raffle drawing for over fifty prizes for everyone entered in the 5K.  You must be present to win.\n\nCome out and wish Running Bear a Happy 10th Birthday!  The cost is $15 for the 5K Run/Walk ($18\, the day of the run) and $5 for the Kids’ Run.\n\nYou can register online at www.runningbearrun.com\, register early on Monday\, July 25th at the Glen Arbor Town Hall from 10 – 4\, or Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 8:45 a.m. before the start of the Run.   Early registered runners can also pick up their bibs at the Town Hall on Monday.  T-shirts will be available for purchase there as well.\n\nBe sure to come out and join the fun!  We know you can run faster than the BEAR!!

Here is the contact info if you can help out: www.dunedash.com\, or contact TART Trails at info@traversetrails.org or 231-941-4300. \nTraverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails (TART)\, Inc. is a proud partner of the 4th annual Dune Dash\, a 4-mile run/walk along the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail (SBHT)\, to be held at 9 a.m. this Saturday\, August 15\, 2015 at the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb. The course showcases the trail\, which opened during summer of 2012 within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. \nThe Dune Dash is organized by the creators of the Zombie Run\, with support from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and TART Trails. According to Matt Ross\, the founder and coordinator of the event\, “If you are not familiar with the SBHT\, participating in the Dune Dash is the perfect time to experience and support the trail.”   \nThe event is on as scheduled despite last Sunday’s storm which knocked down hundreds of trees and rendered the trail impassable. The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes volunteer crews have been working with National Parks Service all week to clear the trail. The run/walk starts and finishes at the Dune Climb and follows the flat paved trail\, passing by rolling sand dunes and scenic forest before turning around near Glen Haven. The only stretch of the SBHT that remains closed is between Glen Haven and Glen Arbor which will not affect the event. \nAll registered participants will receive a t-shirt\, professionally timed results\, and refreshments. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers\, and age-group winners. Packet pick up and late registration will be held on Friday\, August 14th from 5pm-7pm at the Filling Station Microbrewery in Traverse City. There will be no day of registration (In accordance to federal law\, day of registration cannot take place within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore.) Registration ranges from $15-30 per person based on age and prices go up $5 after Thursday\, August 13th. \nProceeds from the event support the continued development of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. DESCRIPTION:The 6th annual run through the beautiful scenery of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore supports preservation of the Park’s historic resources. We’re offering two runs this year – a challenging 5K trail run/walk on the Bayview Trail\, or the Tiller’s 10K on the Bayview Trail\, back gravel roads and a portion on the Lake Michigan beach! Both offer a unique tour of the Port Oneida Rural Historic District – “one of the most prized historic landscapes in the country!” \nThe looped courses meander through the fields and hills of the pastoral landscape of farmsteads from the late 1800s. Afterwards\, take a swim on the beautiful beaches in the National Lakeshore! Run with your friends\, family\, or come to cheer them on. Professional Chip Timing! \nLocation is the Charles Olsen farmstead at 3164 W. Harbor Hwy (M-22)\, 3 miles north of Glen Arbor\, just west of Port Oneida Road. \nRegistration by July 15th – $28 \nAfter July 15th – $33 \nOnline registration at https://events.bytepro.net/PortOneidaRun closes Thursday\, July 30\, 5pm.  Walk-on registrations are welcome. \nKids Schoolhouse Dash – $5 (no pre-registration): Children ages 9 and under can start the day off with a 1/4 mile Schoolhouse Dash from the Olsen barn to the historic one-room schoolhouse on the Bayview trail. \nDownloadable registration forms and more information are available at www.phsb.org or by calling Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear at 231-334-6103.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 20\, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. \nThe event will be a scenic half marathon and a 5k run/walk race in Glen Arbor\, MI. The half marathon will take runners around Big Glen Lake in a clockwise loop\, starting and finishing in downtown Glen Arbor. Runners ascend Inspiration Point on the south side of Big Glen Lake where they will experience one of the most spectacular views of Leelanau County. The 5k course is flat and fast\, and will take runners and walkers through tree-lined roads on the edge of downtown Glen Arbor.  \nHonor Bank introduced a ‘Live Well\, Work Well’ initiative company-wide in 2014. The Port Oneida Run is a challenging 5K trail run (or just a beautiful walk) on the Bayview Trail offering a unique tour of the Port Oneida Rural Historic District – “one of the most prized historic landscapes in the country”!  The course is a loop which meanders  through the flat fields and yes\, some hills\, of the pastoral landscape of farmsteads from the late 1800s. \nRegistration: Online at www.phsb.org  or at the Olsen Farm 4 Miles North of Glen Arbor at 3164 W. harbor Hwy. (M-22_ \nCost: Pre-registration by 5 pm July 31st is $27       After July 31st $32 \n8:30 am Children start the day off with1/4 mile Schoolhouse Dash from the Olsen barn to the historic one-room schoolhouse on the Bayview trail. \n9:00 5K Begins \nAwards: 3 deep in 9 age categories. \n\nPrizes – must be present to win! We’ll be drawing names for some nice prizes donated by our great local merchants!
