SUMMARY:Shoreline Vignettes: New Paintings by Craig Weisse
DESCRIPTION:Empire painter Craig Weisse exhibits Impressionist images of his shoreline community Sept. 16-October 9\, Center Gallery\, 6023 S. In that time he has focused his painting on the locality\, both its natural features as well as the historical and neighborhood buildings that give this community its character. He works in gouache and oil\, and strives to convey the “internalized landscape” – an emotional and nostalgic take on a familiar place. \n  \nA reception for the artist opens the exhibit Sept. 16\, 6 -8 p.m. at the gallery. For more information\, please call 231/334-3179.

SUMMARY:Cocktails and signing with Antoine Laurain\, author of The Red Notebook
DESCRIPTION:Cottage Book Shop is pleased to welcome Antoine Laurain\, the author of several of our favorite books\, The Red Notebook and The President’s Hat. Please join us for an evening of cocktails\, hors d’oeuvres and books. We will be at Camp Firefly in the Homestead. ($20 for hors d’ouvres\, cash bar) Antoine will be traveling to our area to tell us about and sign his new book French Rhapsody (Gallic Press $14.95\, due October 11) which combines his trademark charm with a satirical take on modern France.\nMiddle-aged doctor Alain Massoulier has received a life-changing letter thirty-three years too late. Lost in the Paris postal system for decades\, the letter from Polydor\, dated 1983\, offers a recording contract to The Holograms\, in which Alain played lead guitar. Back then The Holograms had believed in their cutting-edge sound. However\, the music industry remained indifferent\, and eventually the band split up\, each going their own way. Alain is overcome by nostalgia\, and is tempted to track down the members of the group. But in a world where everything and everyone has changed . . . where will his quest take him?\nAntoine Laurain is a Parisian screenwriter\, antiques collector and the author of six novels\, three of which are available in English. The President’s Hat was a 2013 ABA Indies Introduce choice. Don’t miss this fun event. Prepaid reservations can be made by calling 231-334-4223.
