SUMMARY:InstaMeet At Port Oneida Rural Historic District at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, September 3\, 2016\, at 4:00 p.m.\, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will host a free InstaMeet event to celebrate the National Park Service (NPS) centennial. An InstaMeet is an interactive\, in-park event\, allowing visitors meet up\, take photos\, and get to know each other. Once the visitors meet\, they will accompany a park ranger on a historic building tour. \nVisitors will meet at 4:00 p.m. at the Olsen Farm History Center at 3164 West Harbor Highway in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District of the Lakeshore. (For GPS purposes\, persons should use Maple City as the location.) Visitors and rangers will then car caravan to the Ole Olsen house. \nThere\, they will discuss the history of the farmhouse and historic district with a ranger\, as well as sharing stories with each other.  The buildings will be opened so that visitors can see inside. \nParticipants do not have to be an Instagram user to join in the fun; anyone is welcome to participate in the ranger-led hike.  Participants should prepare to be outside for about one hour\, dress for the weather\, and wear comfortable hiking or athletic shoes. \nVisitors are encouraged to bring a camera or a smartphone to capture images during the event\, and are may share their photos on social media using the hashtag #SLBEInstameet. \nAll InstaMeet events are free with a park pass. Passes can be purchased at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Passes cost $15/vehicle for seven days. \nIf you would like to attend but have other plans\, you can follow Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore on Instagram @SleepingBearNPS. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, September 1\, visitors to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore) can listen to classical guitarist and composer Lukas Krolikowski at the Platte River Campground Amphitheater. Krolikowski will be performing from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.\, and the concert is free with a park pass. \nKrolikowski will present a program featuring original works written and inspired by northwestern Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes\, as well as a few traditional pieces from his classical guitar repertoire. \nIn August of 2015\, Krolikowski quit his teaching job in central Illinois\, and moved with his wife Renée and their cat Boris to the Traverse City area. The pieces that will be performed during the concert were written during this transition. \nAll concerts are free with a park pass. Passes may be purchased at the Phillip A. The student will learn different systems of government based in those concepts. They will gain a foundational understanding of the difference between power and control relating to various systems of government. They are on their honor to paint only two hours.

DESCRIPTION:Yes\, this is the 10th Birthday for the Glen Arbor Women’s Club “Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & 1/2 Mile Kids’ Run.”\n\nJoin us for the celebration on Tuesday\, July 26th\, at 9:00 a.m. in front of Cherry Republic on Lake St. in Glen Arbor\, Michigan.  This is a favorite event for both local residents and visitors.  The 5K is open to everyone.  You can run or walk so our young runners and our seniors can both take part.  We’ve made it a family affair with our 1/2 Mile Kids’ Run for the little ones.  The children get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon along with coupons for an ice cream cone from Riverfront Ice Cream and a game of miniature golf provided by Dale’s Putt-Putt.  So bring the whole family and enjoy a great morning!\n\nThe main focus of this event is to earn money for scholarships for our great high school seniors.  This year we gave out six scholarships each for $2000.00.  They were awarded to Rowan James Brady\, Anne Marie Dunklow\, Chris Lodge\, Garrett Schaub\, Seneca Stairs and Jolene Therrien.  Congratulations Seniors!  The Glen Arbor Women’s Club is extremely proud to have given out over $100\,000.00 in scholarship money during these 10 years.\n\nBe sure to arrive early and join us at 8:40 a.m. for a warm-up for our runners and walkers by Lorie Lenhard\, from Lorie’s Pilates located in the Village Sampler.  Local entertainer Pat Niemesto from the group New Third Coast and Cherry Republic’s own Lexi Galla will start the run with the National Anthem.  Our Mascot\, Running Bear\, will be on hand to cheer on all the runners and charm the children.  He loves his photo shots!\n\n\nour winner in 2015\, Zach Ripley crossing the finish line\n\n\nThe 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. and the Kids’ Run will follow at 9:05 a.m.  The run will leave from the corner of Lake and State Streets.  After the run\,  join the “Celebration!”  The 1st and 2nd place winners of 10 age categories as well as the male and female over-all best winners will be announced.  They will all receive metals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and the Cyclery.  We will have lots of great food and a raffle drawing for over fifty prizes for everyone entered in the 5K.  You must be present to win.\n\nCome out and wish Running Bear a Happy 10th Birthday!  The cost is $15 for the 5K Run/Walk ($18\, the day of the run) and $5 for the Kids’ Run.\n\nYou can register online at www.runningbearrun.com\, register early on Monday\, July 25th at the Glen Arbor Town Hall from 10 – 4\, or Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 8:45 a.m. before the start of the Run.   Early registered runners can also pick up their bibs at the Town Hall on Monday.  T-shirts will be available for purchase there as well.\n\nBe sure to come out and join the fun!  We know you can run faster than the BEAR!!

DESCRIPTION:Leelanau Press Book Signing\nSunday July 10 at 1:00 p.m.\nWe are pleased to welcome the authors of the new books from Leelanau Press this summer.\nBarbara Siepker will be on hand to sign her new book\, Historic Cottages of Glen Lake: Revised Second Edition ($55.00) with photographs by Dietrich Floeter. This book offers a  rare glimpse into the interiors of 60 historic Glen Lake summer cottages and the nostalgia enveloping them. The stories of the families that built on Glen Lake are recounted: where they came from\, how they got here\, where they stayed. They fell in love with the Glen Lake and the Dunes and sent down deep roots by building these now-historical family retreats. Three hundred and fifty photographs honor cottage lore and memories and take us on a walk back in time. Each cottage’s importance in the lives of its owners and to the community is celebrated\, revealing the special sense of place and state of mind that only a lake cottage can evoke.\nAlso on hand to sign their new books:\nRevered photographer Ken Scott and painter Kaye Krapohl trekked the entire 100 mile Lake Michigan Leelanau Peninsula shoreline.
