DESCRIPTION:“All hikes start with an introduction at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire. Inside the visitor center\, rangers will give visitors an introduction to the lakeshore.  If there is enough snow\, snowshoes will be provided free of charge.  From the visitor center\, everyone will travel by car to the trailhead or area of the National Lakeshore pre-selected for that day. Once there\, the ranger will help participants learn about the park’s unique features and winter’s effect on them by exploring and discovering clues on site. Be prepared and plan to be outside for about two hours. Dress in layers and wear waterproof boots to be most comfortable.   \nPlease Call the visitor center at 231-326-4700 to make a reservation. \nAll programs are free with a valid park entrance pass. DESCRIPTION:“Explore Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore at night on a candlelit winter hike on Saturday\, February 10 and Saturday\, February 17 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Dune Climb. Arrive anytime between 6 pm and 7:30 pm to enjoy the full experience. Join park rangers and volunteers to experience the park after dark. Hike one mile on flat terrain along a candlelit trail. Bring your sense of adventure\, enjoy a trail lit by luminaries\, and engage with our knowledgeable rangers and volunteers. \nAll ages welcome. Please leave pets at home as the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail is currently closed to dogs. \nThis hike will take place regardless of snow conditions. Park rangers will share information along the route. If there is adequate snow\, this will be a snowshoe hike. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes for the event. Snowshoes will also be loaned on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nAll programs are free with a valid park entrance pass. Passes may be purchased at the Phillip A.
