DESCRIPTION:Glen Lake Woman’s Club Flag Raising Ceremony\nJuly 4th\,  10 AM\nOld Settlers Picnic Grounds on Glen Lake \nIndependence Day Perspective – A Michigan Defense Diplomat’s View \nCelebrate the founding of our nation in a patriotic\, joyous ceremony with community members of all ages. Captain Kevin M. Quarderer\, U. S. Naval Attache to the United States Embassy in Australia\, will be the featured speaker.  For the past five years Captain Quarderer was the Naval Attache to the US Embassy in London.  Captain Kevin Quarderer graduated from the University of Michigan with B.S and M.S degrees in aerospace engineering. He is a life-long Michigan resident\, career Naval Aviator\, and current Military Diplomat.  \nHis presentation is titled Independence Day Perspective-A Michigan Defense Diplomat’s View.  The traditional raising of the flag will be followed by a singalong of well-loved and familiar patriotic songs. After the program the chapel will be open for tours.  \nThe Flag Raising Ceremony begins at 10 am\, July 4th\, at the Old Settlers Picnic Grounds\, located on the southeastern shore of Glen Lake near the corner of Dunn’s Farm Rd. (CR 675) and Burdickville Rd (CR 616). Please bring your own lawn chairs. Event sponsored by Glen Lake Woman’s Club.  \nThe Glen Lake Woman’s Club was established in 1937 with a mission to foster social\, civic and educational projects. In addition to the Art Fair\, other Club projects include the improvement and beautification of the Chapel and grounds at Old Settlers Park\, organization of the community Flag Raising Ceremony at Old Settlers Park\, and a Christmas party for residents of the Maple Lake Valley Nursing Home.

DESCRIPTION:The Stan Brubaker Celebrate America 4th of July Parade celebrates America with a myriad of floats and vintage vehicles as they parade from Glen Haven to Glen Arbor. Parade starts at noon. The 61st parade will take place on July 4th\, 2023.\nAnyone is welcome to participate. No registration required.  \n10:30am John DePuy will be coordinating the assembling of vehicles and the launch from Glen Haven beginning at 10:30am. The lineup is organized by volunteers. If you’re a walker joining the parade\, please enter the parade closer to town\, via Forest Haven Rd. \nPeter Van Nort will be in charge of pedestrian participation at Forest Haven. Please do not enter parade until the last vehicle passes. \n12pm the line up will roar slowly out of Glen Haven to parade into Glen Arbor. \nThe parade marshal for 2023 is Rodney Brubaker. The children and grandchildren of Stan express appreciation to Glen Arbor for honoring America on this special day!  \nNOTE: Please contact the Township office at (231)334-3539 if you can help with the “broom crew.”  More helpers are needed. Extra effort will be made to help parents keep their children safe by sweeping candy that doesn’t reach the curb. Flagging tape linking orange cones will emphasize the boundary for parents and their children. Water balloons and squirt guns are prohibited and we ask you to spread the word to all our spectators. Don and Annette Lewis will be coordinating the “broom crew” along Western Avenue.

Meet on the water at 3 pm in front of Glen Lake Yacht Club and head towards the Narrows. We’ll go under the bridge and out towards the boat ramp\, then head back under the bridge. After that\, it’s anyone’s guess. Those who want to keep the parade going can circle the lake. Boat decorations are optional but highly encouraged\, so get that red\, white\, and blue swag out!

DESCRIPTION:Do you have what it takes to be a surfman of the US Lifesaving Service? To find out\, join park rangers on Thursdays from 1:15-3 pm at the Maritime Museum to complete a series of stations as part of the rescue duties of the surfman stationed the Sleeping Bear Point Station. \nStations will set up around the grounds of the Maritime Museum in Glen Haven where potential surfmen and women of all ages can try their hand at tossing out a lifering\, doing a lookout for potential ships in distress\, and participate in the Breeches Buoy demonstration to do a mock shipwreck rescue. \nMove through the stations at your own pace\, but expect to spend about 30 minutes (or more) if you would like to complete each activity.

DESCRIPTION:Always wanted to learn to fish? Curious about local fish species? Need more information about fishing regulations\, or preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species? The wait is over! Stop by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for a day of festivities aiming to provide safe and barrier-free opportunities to engage youth (primarily K-5th graders) in fishing! \nBetween 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.\, collect a Junior Angler booklet from the Mobile Visitor Center (Bear Force One) and complete all activity stations to learn about aquatic food webs\, water safety\, Leave No Trace\, the importance of fishing to the Anishinaabek\, etc. Once the Junior Angler booklet is complete\, return it to Bear Force One to earn a Junior Angler badge and other goodies! \nCompleting the Junior Angler booklet and activities takes about one hour\, so please plan on arriving to Loon Lake by 1:00 p.m. to ensure there is enough time to complete all stations. This event is the first of several Junior Angler Day events funded by a generous grant from the National Park Foundation that will be happening at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore this summer.

Kids of all ages and their families are welcome to attend.

SUMMARY:Stations of the Storm
DESCRIPTION:Do you have what it takes to be a surfman of the US Lifesaving Service? To find out\, join park rangers on Thursdays from 1:15-3 pm at the Maritime Museum to complete a series of stations as part of the rescue duties of the surfman stationed the Sleeping Bear Point Station. \nStations will set up around the grounds of the Maritime Museum in Glen Haven where potential surfmen and women of all ages can try their hand at tossing out a lifering\, doing a lookout for potential ships in distress\, and participate in the Breeches Buoy demonstration to do a mock shipwreck rescue. \nMove through the stations at your own pace\, but expect to spend about 30 minutes (or more) if you would like to complete each activity.
