SUMMARY:Yarn Bomb Installation Day
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 15 | 9:30 am \nYarn bombs are set to drop on the Glen Arbor Arts Center on Sunday\, September 15\, 9:30 am. Volunteers are needed to help install hand-knit “bombs” on trees in the GAAC’s backyard grove as part of the upcoming exhibition “Fiber Without Borders\,” a juried exhibition of contemporary fiber art. Yarn bombing is friendly community event\, and a form of temporary street art. Yarn in any form (knit\, crochet\, latch hook\, cross stitch\, amigurumi or simple wrapping) adorns an object [e.g. tree trunk or limbs\, poles\, waste can] in the public environment. While other forms of graffiti may be decorative\, socio-political commentary\, or vandalism\, yarn bombing was initially almost exclusively about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places. The start of this movement has been attributed to Houston resident Magda Sayeg\, who says she first got the idea in 2005 when she covered the door handle of her boutique with a custom-made cozy. \nVolunteers of any age are invited to help with the yarn bomb installation. DESCRIPTION:In its third year\, the quirky “Glen Arbor Bed Parade” brings another fun thing to Glen Arbor for Thanksgiving weekend. Join the new Black Friday tradition\, sponsored by Becky Thatcher Designs. Open to anyone and everyone to cheer from the curb or roll down Western Avenue.  \nWant to participate?  \nHaul that creatively decorated bed on wheels to Sylvan Inn’s parking at 9:00 Friday and join the parade. Your support team to push would be good\, too. Event begins at 9am and ends by 9:30am at Art’s Tavern. \n  \nPrior to the parade\, some wake up early dressed festive and cozy to shop the deals of the year during the Glen Arbor PJ Party from 6:30-9am.
