SUMMARY:Yarn Bomb Installation Day
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 15 | 9:30 am \nYarn bombs are set to drop on the Glen Arbor Arts Center on Sunday\, September 15\, 9:30 am. Volunteers are needed to help install hand-knit “bombs” on trees in the GAAC’s backyard grove as part of the upcoming exhibition “Fiber Without Borders\,” a juried exhibition of contemporary fiber art. Yarn bombing is friendly community event\, and a form of temporary street art. Yarn in any form (knit\, crochet\, latch hook\, cross stitch\, amigurumi or simple wrapping) adorns an object [e.g. tree trunk or limbs\, poles\, waste can] in the public environment. While other forms of graffiti may be decorative\, socio-political commentary\, or vandalism\, yarn bombing was initially almost exclusively about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places. The start of this movement has been attributed to Houston resident Magda Sayeg\, who says she first got the idea in 2005 when she covered the door handle of her boutique with a custom-made cozy. \nVolunteers of any age are invited to help with the yarn bomb installation. DESCRIPTION:Miracle Mile Ugly Sweater Dash\, December 21\, 11 a.m. \nJoin Cherry Republic for its second annual Ugly Sweater Dash the Saturday before Christmas. Participants will take off in front of the Cherry Public House on Lake Street and then run\, walk or stroller-ride one mile\, ending up back at the Public House for a pint of beer or a mug of hot cocoa. \nStart Time: 11 a.m.; Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. $20 Adults | $10 Kids (12 and under)\nPrizes for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd Place Finishers \nOne form must be submitted for each participant. Entry fees are paid during registration at Cherry Republic on day of the event. Required waivers will need to be signed during check in on the day of the event. \nSign Up Form online\, via Google Forms.
