DESCRIPTION:Dear Friend and Neighbor: \nAs the owners of the Glen Lake Manor\, we would like to invite you to a special invitation only event being held at Glen Lake Manor from Noon to 2pm\, on Saturday October 22nd. As we enter the colder months\, there is no better time to enjoy a cup of coffee! Our event will feature a presentation on coffee tasting called “cupping” – think of it as wine tasting but with coffee. \nThis is a chance to savor different types of the brew\, find out what you like and don’t like\, learn about the different flavor profiles\, and get a greater appreciation of all the work that goes into a good cup of joe. Our presenter for the afternoon will be Chris Rife\, who was a nominee for the Chicago Barista of the Year Award in 2019\, and now works for the Chicago Beveridge Company as the head of education and is the corporate trainer. SUMMARY:Chili Cook-Off + Perch Fishing Contest
DESCRIPTION:The Glen Lake Chili Cook-off\, an annually anticipated mid-winter event\, is back to its original format this year! Saturday\, February 19th from noon- 3pm\, on the deck of Boonedocks in Glen Arbor. Winners will be crowned as the event wraps up around 3pm. Proceeds from this event are given out on senior scholarship night at Glen Lake School\, to deserving students to help defray college tuition. This is a family friendly event\, just be sure to dress for the weather. \nThis year the Glen Lake Chili Cook-off is not charging a fee to enter your chili. Please send an email to Boonedocksga@gmail.com to enter by February 7th.  Admission to the chili cook-off is $10 per person\, which includes unlimited chili samples. $5 for kids ages 6-12 and seniors 70+\, kids under 6 enter for free. \nSimultaneously with the Chili Cook-Off\, The Sportsman Shop hosts the annual Perch Fishing Contest as either a spectator or participant. Sign up will take place at the Sportsman Shop in Glen Arbor\, MI from 6-7:30am. Ice fishing takes place on the Glen Lakes. Bring your catches back to weigh in\, at the Sportsman Shop at 1pm. SUMMARY:The Why and How of Seed Saving
DESCRIPTION:Humans have saved seeds since the beginning of time. The Grow Benzie Seed Saving Guild has been saving seeds since its formation in 2008. Two citizen seed savers who tend this project are in conversation. This outdoor program is offered as part of the GAAC’s exhibition Food Is Art / Art Is Food\, in the GAAC gallery through August 19. \nFood and flower seeds don’t just grow in the seed catalog\, but are strategically gathered and harvested. Grow Benzie’s heritage project brings together seed enthusiasts who maintain a seed library at Grow Benzie in Benzonia. The guild offers regular events to teach how to plant for seed harvesting\, save seeds\, and provide a venue to share stories and all aspects of the story of the seed. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the annual Glen Lake Winterfest\, Presidents Day Weekend: Saturday\, February 15th\, 2020! Festivities include a Perch Fishing/Contest + Chili Cook-Off.\nThis annually anticipated\, mid-winter event in Glen Arbor is a favorite to visitors and locals alike. Proceeds from this event are given to the Glen Lake Schools Scholarship Fund. This is a family friendly event\, just be sure to dress for the weather! If you’d like to participate\, the entry fee is $25 per chili. Winners will be crowned as the event wraps up around 3pm. Admission to the chili cook-off is $10 per person\, which includes unlimited chili samples. $5 for Kids ages 6-12 and Seniors 70+\, Kids under 6 are free. \nParticipants are asked to submit entry forms by Friday\, February 7th. Thank you!  \nPerch Fishing Contest\nFestivities start at 7am with the beginning of the Perch Fishing Contest\, with prizes for 1st through 4th place catches. All participants will bring their biggest catches from Big and Little Glen Lake to the Sportsman Shop at 1pm\, and winners will then be crowned.
