DESCRIPTION:48th Annual Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair\nWednesday\, July 17th\, 2019 from 10 am – 4 pm\, outside at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. \nThe Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair hosts 100 artists carefully selected to represent up-north\, one-of-a kind art pieces for sale at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. The juried Art Fair features pottery\, painting\, textiles\, woodworking\, and jewelry\, as well as face painting\, a raffle\, and a bake sale. Lunch is available for purchase on site including the popular walking tacos and cherry chicken salad. Admission is free.  \nEach year\, thousands of people shop for that unique piece of art\, either for themselves or for a special gift.  \nAll proceeds support the Glen Lake student scholarship program. Weekends are not typically available. \nTours are approximately 1.25 hr\n \nDonation:  $20 per adult;  $12 per child 4-12   Children 3 and under on laps are free \nReservations required – please call 231-334-6103.\nPLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY!  Register before 11 am the day of the ride to ensure we have enough people. Wagon holds 12 people. We need a minimum of 8 reservations to conduct the tour. Private rental rides can be arranged – call for details. More than 100 works of art will be exhibited and offered for sale on a first-come basis (at the sound of the gong at 5:45). DESCRIPTION:Port Oneida Fair\nFriday and Saturday\, August 9 & 10\, 2019\n\n10:00 am – 4:00\nThe Port Oneida Fair is presented by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in partnership with Historic Sleeping Bear.\nEvery August\, the Port Oneida Rural Historic District awakens from its peaceful slumber and comes alive with activity true to the period when it was a community of robust settlers. \n\n \nSusan Odom of Hillside Homestead offers historic cooking demonstrations in the restored kitchen of the Olsen Farm. \n\nVisitors take a  step back in time at the two-day Port Oneida Fair to experience life as it was in the late 1800s and early 1900s. \nTake the trolley\, hike\, bike or drive (if you must!) to the select historic sites where a variety of traditional rural crafts and activities take place.  Over 100 demonstrators will be hard at work. \nChildren can try their hand at crosscut sawing and other farm implements. Horses mowing in the fields while artists create paintings inspired by the cultural landscape. Take in a display of antique bicycles\, cameras and phonographs. Learn about basket weaving\, soapmaking\, buttermaking\,  spinning\, and fur trapping. Satisfy your curiosity and walk through many of the historic farmhouses and barns that will be open for tours. \nPack a picnic lunch to eat at under a tree\, or purchase food at various sites.  This is an enjoyable and relaxing\, yet educational family time.  The event is hosted by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. \nFor more information\, call the Park at 326-5135 or get full Fair schedule here.  Buy your Port Oneida Fair posters at the Olsen Farm or Cottage Bookshop\, Glen Arbor. \n   \nVisit Six Historic Sites\nBurfiend Barn: A focus on maritime activities and live music; hands-on children’s activities; square dancing; snacks \nDechow Farm: Oxen mowing in the fields; horses and other livestock; bees to broom and ropemaking; Moomers ice cream and Lion’s Club lunch; too many demonstrators to mention! \nKelderhouse Farm: Visit with the Kelderhouse family; Re-enactment of Civil War camp life – get bandaged by the nurse!  Planting and harvesting of grains in the fields. \nOlsen Farm: A focus on historic food preservation and cooking demonstrations; dulcimer music; Presentations: Farm life; Port Oneida Past and Present; quilting; soapmaking; Cherry Republic Ice Cream\, children’s games. \nPort Oneida Schoolhouse:  “School” is in session most of the day.  Sit in for a spell. See Special Event schedule for times. \nThoreson Farm: A focus on traditional crafts – spinning\, blacksmithing\, face painting; ponies; local artists\, musicians; Cherry Republic lunches and snacks \nSTAR PARTY!  8 pm on Saturday night at Thoreson farm. We’ll have you seeing stars with the help of the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society’s telescope. \nIf you are interested in demonstrating a skill/craft at the Olsen farm\, or volunteering to help scoop ice cream\, park cars load the horse and wagon or greet visitors\, please call us at 231-334-6103.

SUMMARY:Horse and Wagon Tours
DESCRIPTION:Clip Clop Back in Time\n\nExperience the Port Oneida Historic District the way they did in the late 1800 to early 1900s –  by horse and wagon!  We’ll travel in the footsteps of the early pioneers down the back roads of Port Oneida where you’ll learn about the history of this significant agricultural community with rolling hills and 18 farmsteads. \nBring your family and friends for an activity that is relaxing\, educational and memorable.  Or\, make it a romantic end to your perfect day before dinner. \nSchedule \nTues. 4:30 & Thurs. 3:00 and 4:30  \nStarting Thursday\, July 2 through Sept. 3 \nIf you would like to pay for an entire wagon on a date please contact us. Weekends are not typically available. \nTours are approximately 1.25 hr\n \nDonation:  $20 per adult;  $12 per child 4-12   Children 3 and under on laps are free \nReservations required – please call 231-334-6103.\nPLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY!  Register before 11 am the day of the ride to ensure we have enough people. Wagon holds 12 people. We need a minimum of 8 reservations to conduct the tour. Private rental rides can be arranged – call for details. Late registration may be available. \nPark and meet at the Port Oneida Farms Heritage Center at the Charles Olsen farm 15 minutes before the tour begins. \nRates and Schedule subject to change. Reservations are held with credit card. Pay in cash or check on arrival. No refund for no-shows. Credit card will be charged for no-shows.
