The event takes place March 7-8 at Dechow and Olsen farmsteads. \nAt Dechow\, learn the history of maple sugaring from the Anishinaabe\, to the Settler’s open fire process\, to the present day. You will even visit an historic sugar shack.\nStep inside the Olsen farmhouse across the street for the final boiling of sap\, sugar making\, hands-on kids’ games\, and maple syrup snow cones. Various maple products and syrup will be on-hand. If walking between stops at Dechow farm is not your pace\, this one-stop demonstration is on-going at Olsen.\nPlan on spending 2.5 hours at the event to experience both sites. Parking is available at each farm. The farms are located one mile north of The Homestead\, on Harbor Hwy. (M-22)\, between Thoreson and Port Oneida roads. Maple Sugar Days is presented by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in partnership with Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear. \nThe event is free with a park pass. \nThe festivities kick off at the annual Community Pancake Breakfast at the Homestead Resort’s CQ’s Cabin on Saturday\, March 7 from 8am – 12pm. Visit this cozy\, charming home during the winter season and get a unique snowy view of the Olsen farmstead and surrounding landscapes. \nIf conditions do not allow for snowshoeing\, we will take a winter hike. Bring your own snowshoes and a change of shoes for inside the Olsen House. \nThis event is for adults and children over 12. This is a free event and donations are welcome. Registration is requested so we can prepare enough cocoa and bake enough cookies!

Harbor Hwy (M-22)\, Maple City \nDiscover Port Oneida’s past on snow-covered paths with your history guide. Your adventure begins and ends at the historic Olsen House where after a gentle trek\, you will gather in the kitchen for a hot cocoa bar with all the fixings\, and warm cookies\, using Hattie Olsen’s own recipe. Visit this cozy\, charming home during the winter season and get a unique snowy view of the Olsen farmstead and surrounding landscapes. \nIf conditions do not allow for snowshoeing\, we will take a winter hike. Bring your own snowshoes and a change of shoes for inside the Olsen House. \nThis event is for adults and children over 12. This is a free event and donations are welcome. Registration is requested so we can prepare enough cocoa and bake enough cookies!
