Presented through a partnership between the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Manitou Music Series and Interlochen Public Radio’s Sound Garden Project\, an initiative focused on planting classical music in unexpected places. The Kodak Quartet will bring its electrifying\, genre-defying sound to the Glen Arbor area.\nNow in its fourth year in Glen Arbor\, the Sound Garden residency continues the GAAC’s commitment to making the arts accessible\, immersive\, and community-centered. DESCRIPTION:Spring Arbor\, Michigan printmaker Jodie Chilcote will carve out time in June to create a series of woodblock prints – illustrations for a children’s book that are the focus of Chilcote’s two-week artist’s residency with the Glen Arbor Arts Center. She’ll share work and stories from the residency at a presentation on June 12\, 10 am. The program is open to the public at no charge. \n“This is a project I have been wanting to complete for a few years now\, but I haven’t given myself the time\,” Chilcote said. “The residency will be the perfect opportunity for me to sit down and prioritize this illustration project.”\nThe GAAC has been hosting visiting artmakers as part of its residency program since the 1990s. This group of five digital paintings are on the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Outdoor Gallery. Shull and Sarah Bearup-Neal\, GAAC gallery manager\, will discuss the work\, the theme that connects each of the paintings in the installation\, and Shull’s process for making them. The program is July 20\, 11 am at the GAAC. \nThe paintings in this exhibition are digitally generated\, and were created for the 6th edition of the GAAC’s Outdoor Gallery project\, a year-long\, invitational exhibition that turns the GAAC’s exterior walls into an outdoor exhibition space. Shull is no stranger to digital technology\, and has integrated it into his painting practice. Prayer\, as it’s explained through the lens of Christian Science\, is a tool for bringing a different viewpoint\, and ultimately healing\, to any situation. Prayer is getting beyond surface level judgements to a deeper sense of God’s nature—all-good\, all-loving—defining all things. It helps us see how natural health\, wholeness and harmony are\, here and now\, in a way that not only benefits us\, our family\, our colleagues\, and our friends\, but also it benefits the world. The speaker\, Alexandre Fischer\, is a Christian Science Practitioner. He describes a number of specific experiences as he walks his listeners through how this prayerful perception of God brings healing in our lives.

The traditional raising of the flag by the Glen Lake Fire Department will be led by Chief Bryan Ferguson and will be followed by a singalong of well-loved and familiar patriotic songs.  \nGene Kelly\, the featured speaker\, is an author\, retired business owner\, and decorated Army veteran. His speech\, “You Can Help!\,” will explore what we can do to improve our local community as well as our country. He will open with a story by Richard “Dick” Grout about veterans and school children.  Dick\, a decorated World War II veteran\, passed away at the age of 104\, on December 19th\, 2024. Mr Kelly’s most recent book\, Three American Men\, is available exclusively at the Cottage Book Store in Glen Arbor.  \nPastor Melody Olin of Empire United Methodist Church will deliver the Invocation\, and Rob Hansen\, Head of the Leelanau School\, will read the Declaration of Independence.  \nPlease bring your own lawn chairs. The event is sponsored by the Glen Lake Woman’s Club. After the program the chapel at Old Settlers Park will be open for tours.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate America on the 4th of July with floats and vintage cars\,\nas they parade from Glen Haven to Glen Arbor.\nThe 2025 Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshall is Ed Ricker. Ed’s Cadillac has carried the 4th of July parade Grand Marshall’s for many years. Following the unexpected passing of Ed\, the Township honors his memory by naming him the 2025 parade Grand Marshall. This annual community parade is open to anyone who wants to celebrate the founding of our great country on its birthday. No registration is required. \nParade vehicles will gather in Glen Haven Friday morning\, July 4th\, at 10:30am. Volunteer parade staff will direct vehicles to their designated area by class/type. The parade begins at noon when vehicles will proceed slowly toward Glen Arbor. \nWalkers should gather on Forest Haven Road and M-109 (near the Christian Science Church) and are asked not to join the parade until the last parade vehicle passes Forest Haven Road. A member of the volunteer parade staff will help organize the walkers and indicate when it’s time for each group to proceed. A vehicle from the Glen Lake Fire Department will stop to let the walkers in and will follow\nbehind the last group. \nSafety is of the utmost importance! Please help keep yourself and others safe. Children (and adults) should not enter the street. Please follow the guidance from the “broom crew” which is comprised of volunteers who “broom” candy from the street toward the crowd. Please\, No Water Activities during the parade. For the safety and comfort of everyone attending\, we ask that you do not bring or use water guns\, blasters\, balloons\, bottles\, or other water items during the parade.
