DESCRIPTION:Cherry Republic is hosting a Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes fundraiser on Sunday\, December 10th\, 1-4 pm in the Public House in Glen Arbor. The Beach Bards will entertain with a fun afternoon of original (or new takes) on old songs\, stories\, and poems highlighting the history of the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. Anne-Marie Oomen and Norm Wheeler will perform “A Stone That Rises\,” with Anne-Marie starring as Elizabeth Burfiend talking about the settlement of the Port Oneida District and what life was like in the area over 100 years ago. Norm Wheeler will accompany Anne-Marie on trumpet. \nThe Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes will sell Picture-Perfect Sleeping Bear at the event with special bundle offerings at extra savings. Picture-Perfect Sleeping Bear captures the history and beauty of Sleeping Bear country through a sparking collection of photographs and stories. Purchases and donations from the event will support the Friends’ goal to acquire a Duet Bike. This wheelchair bicycle tandem will be a new mobility device which will allow families and friends to enjoy a bike ride through the park together. \nThe event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:“All hikes start with an introduction at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire. Inside the visitor center\, rangers will give visitors an introduction to the lakeshore.  If there is enough snow\, snowshoes will be provided free of charge.  From the visitor center\, everyone will travel by car to the trailhead or area of the National Lakeshore pre-selected for that day. Once there\, the ranger will help participants learn about the park’s unique features and winter’s effect on them by exploring and discovering clues on site. Be prepared and plan to be outside for about two hours. Dress in layers and wear waterproof boots to be most comfortable.   \nPlease Call the visitor center at 231-326-4700 to make a reservation. \nAll programs are free with a valid park entrance pass. Passes may be purchased at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, Michigan\, and cost $25 (per vehicle) for seven days\, $45 for an annual Sleeping Bear Dunes pass\, or $80 (or less) for the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands pass series.”

If there is enough snow\, snowshoes will be provided free of charge. From the visitor center\, everyone will travel by car to the trailhead or area of the National Lakeshore pre-selected for that day. Once there\, the ranger will help participants learn about the park’s unique features and winter’s effect on them by exploring and discovering clues on site. Be prepared and plan to be outside for about two hours. Dress in layers and wear waterproof boots to be most comfortable.

Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, Michigan\, and cost $25 (per vehicle) for seven days\, $45 for an annual Sleeping Bear Dunes pass\, or $80 (or less) for the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands pass series.”

DESCRIPTION:“Explore Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore at night on a candlelit winter hike on Saturday\, February 10 and Saturday\, February 17 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Dune Climb. Arrive anytime between 6 pm and 7:30 pm to enjoy the full experience. Join park rangers and volunteers to experience the park after dark. Hike one mile on flat terrain along a candlelit trail. Bring your sense of adventure\, enjoy a trail lit by luminaries\, and engage with our knowledgeable rangers and volunteers. \nAll ages welcome. Please leave pets at home as the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail is currently closed to dogs. \nThis hike will take place regardless of snow conditions. Park rangers will share information along the route. If there is adequate snow\, this will be a snowshoe hike. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes for the event. Snowshoes will also be loaned on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nAll programs are free with a valid park entrance pass. Passes may be purchased at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, Michigan\, and cost $25 (per vehicle) for seven days\, $45 for an annual Sleeping Bear Dunes pass\, or $80 (or less) for the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands pass series. \nThere is no advanced registration needed.
