SUMMARY:Talk About Art: Animator Jim Feeley
DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) “Talk About Art” series opens its 2016 season Sunday\, Jan. 17 in conversation with Fox Television animator Jim Feeley. The interview begins at 2 p.m. at the GAAA\, 6031 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. There is no charge. \nFeeley helped create the Fox cult classic “Family Guy.” In 2004\, he joined the creative team behind “American Dad\,” the animated adventures of Stan Smith\, a CIA dad with a peculiar family\, which includes a junk food-loving alien named Roger who he picked up at Area 51 and has been harboring ever since. Feeley\, a Traverse City dad of three daughters and no aliens\, will talk Jan. 17 about doodling in the margins of his school papers and how that distraction evolved into a creative career during the golden age of television animation. \n“Talk About Art\,” now in its eighth year\, is a series of conversational interviews with area artists and makers. The series moves this year to Sunday afternoons from its traditional Thursday evening time slot. “Talk About Art” interviews are free of charge. For more information about the series\, please call the GAAA\, 231/334-6112.

SUMMARY:MOSTLY MUSIC: PICO AND CHOWN
DESCRIPTION:Miriam Pico has been writing songs and performing since she was barely able to walk. She sings\, plays guitar\, ukulele and even whistles! She recently starred in Traverse City Old Town Playhouse’s sold out production of “Evita.” She has released three CDs. David Chown has been playing piano professionally for over 25 years. He’s equally adept at playing jazz and popular music. David has released seven CDs on his own label and teaches over 40 piano students in addition to teaching Audio Technology at Northwestern Michigan College. Miriam and David have been part of the Traverse City music scene since 2007. At the GAAA\, you’ll be able to witness them having a lot of fun with popular standards\, jazz\, and original compositions. \nThe “Mostly Music” series brought to you by the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA)\, is a winter extension of the Manitou Music Festival. Smaller groups (1 or 2 artists) perform in the GAAA gallery\, but also spend some time talking about their music. The GAAA\, 6031 S. Lake Street in Glen Arbor\, provides a more intimate setting than our larger outdoor concerts that allows the audience much closer contact with the musicians. “Mostly Music” will be hosted by Bob Foskett\, who programmed jazz radio in Chicago for 30 years and is now a DJ for Friday Morning Jazz at WNMC in Traverse City. \nAdmission is $10 and prepaid reservations are recommended due to limited seating capacity. Please note that actual tickets will not be issued. Your name will be added to a list at the door when prepaying. Based on availability\, you can also pay at the door.

Tools and materials will be provided.  Participants should wear boots\, gloves\, and bring a sack lunch for each day that they attend.  Participants can sign up for any number of days.\n \nWorkers are not required to be skilled in the building trades\, though experience will be helpful and appreciated.  The purpose of the workshop is to teach the techniques and train owners and those interested how to do restoration work on timber and frame structures\, including concrete and stonework.  Past workshop attendees have ranged in age from 7 to 75 with each contributing their own unique skills to the project.\n \nCampsites will be provided for those volunteers who wish to camp for those days they are signed up for the workshop.  Please indicate on the form\, by email\, or when you call to sign up. \n \nInterested parties should contact the park historical architect\, Kimberly Mann (231)326-4771\, to sign up for the workshop.  To sign up by email:  kimberly_mann@nps.gov
