DESCRIPTION:An extension of our popular summer concert series\, The Homestead is hosting a concert at Mountain Flowers Saturday\, February 4 from 7pm to 10pm.  The music and energy will be so inspiring you’ll have a hard time sitting still. \nJazz North is a “little” big band combining the best acoustic and electric jamz for all genres.  The horn section gels with the rhythm section to perform everything from funk to swing to rhythm and blues.  You’ll also hear some Latin\, bebop\, and rock.  This seven piece band also throws in plenty of fresh original arrangements for a mix that’s delightful for listening and dancing! DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) “Talk About Art” series continues with host Norm Wheeler in conversation with sculptor Bill Allen on Sunday\, April 9\, 2 p.m. at The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor. There is no charge. \nAllen is known throughout the region for his large-scale\, welded steel sculpture celebrating a wide range of four-legged animals. In the early 2000s Allen began exploring other media and began creating mixed media paintings — sculptural compositions made from drift wood and other treasures he found washed up on local beaches. These works found their way into a 2010 collaborative project he undertook with Traverse City poet Fleda Brown whose poetry he used as the starting point for new works. Allen is a self-taught visual artist who lives in Maple City. \nThe Leelanau School is located at 1 Old Homestead Road in Glen Arbor. DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) “Talk About Art” series continues with host Norm Wheeler in conversation with Traverse City poet Fleda Brown on Sunday\, May 7\, 2 p.m. at The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor. There is no charge. \nIn a wide-ranging conversation about the craft of writing\, Wheeler and Brown will talk about how life events — both small and large — have found their way into her writing. Recently\, the artist used her craft to examine a cancer diagnosis\, which lead to a blog and a new volume of poems\, My Wobbly Bicycle: Meditations on Cancer and the Creative Life\, published in 2016. The author of nine books of poetry and two essay collections\, Brown is the former Poet Laureate of Delaware (2001-2006). She taught for many years at the University of Delaware\, where she founded the Poets in the Schools Program\, and now teaches in The Rainier Writing Workshop\, Pacific Lutheran University’s Low Residency MFA Program. \nThe Leelanau School is located at 1 Old Homestead Road in Glen Arbor. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Independence\nIndependence Day gets celebrated usually beginning the day before the 4th with some free\, local live music\, followed by things to do for everyone. On the “Old School House” lawn – bring your chairs/blankets. From 7 – 8pm\, on July 3rd\, the Northport Band plays live. FREE to attend\, Donations to the Band welcomed.  \nOn the 4th:  \nThe Flag raising ceremony takes place at 10am in Old Settlers Park (located on the corner of Dunns Farm Road and Burdickville Road – CR 616). Organized by Glen Lake Women’s Club\, the ceremony begins at 10 am with Invocation by Pastor Logsten of Empire United Methodist followed by Boy Scout Troop 105 presenting the Flag Raising paired with patriotic songs performed by Summer Singers. Key Note: Laurel Jeris / Glen Lake Woman’s Club: Daughters of Liberty – Roles of Women during the American Revolutionary War. Cookies and lemonade for everyone and Children to receive US Flags!  \nHead on down to Glen Arbor and shop/dine – most places are open for at least half the day for visitors. Grab a spot and enjoy the big Parade downtown Glen Arbor beginning at 12pm. Parade leaves from Glen Haven then makes it’s way through to the North/East end of town.  \nIf you’re a boater\, you can join in on the boat parade 4th of July evening on Glen Lake beginning at 4pm in front of the Yacht Club. \nTo Participate in the Parade…\nWant a front row seat at the parade? Volunteer! We always need as many parade volunteers as possible. \nVolunteers can pick up a parade t-shirt at Art’s Tavern the week prior to the 4th. DESCRIPTION:Ohio artist Joseph Lombardo conducts a painting demonstration at Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake Street\, Glen Arbor\, on Sunday\, July 16\, 1 p.m. This demonstration is an opportunity to watch the artist work\, and to talk with him about his process and technique. The demonstration is open to the public without charge. \nThe demonstration is offered in conjunction with Lombardo’s exhibition of Glen Arbor studies at Center Gallery. He began visiting Glen Arbor in 2009\, and executed the first of his Michigan-in-summer paintings. Through this evolving group of oil paintings Lombardo explores the Leelanau landscape\, light\, and color as well as its houses\, trees\, bicycles\, farm houses and night scenes. DESCRIPTION:The Art Fair organized by the Glen Lake Woman’s Club features approximately 100 artists\, carefully chosen to represent a variety of art mediums. What originally began in front of the Town Hall has expanded to both inside and out – a great place to showcase unique art. \nLunch is available\, including our famous “walking tacos.” In addition to the art\, there is popcorn\, face painting\, raffle\, bake sale and returning this year\, a table of used jewelry. \nAll proceeds from this event go to Glen Lake student scholarships. DESCRIPTION:GLEN LAKE COMMUNITY LIBRARY BIENNIEL HOME TOUR \nTHURSDAY\, JULY 20TH — Glen Lake Library Biennial Home Tour\, 10am-4pm   $20.00.  Visit 5 beautiful homes including the very special Inspiration Point 1920’s Log Cottage!!  Don’t miss this tour!  More Info\, call 326-5361 or visit\,  www.glenlakelibrary.net \n  \nThe Glen Lake Community Library’s Home Tour includes 5 diverse residences that encompass \nall styles and traditions from an old log cottage built in the 1920’s to a green home built two \nyears ago.  We are excited to offer these wonderful homes to the community for the Biennial \nHome Tour.  Another one of our homes is a farmhouse complete with barns and gardens and they \ncan all be toured.  Another is a beautiful Nantucket style country home on Big Glen Lake and then \nthere is the charming summer cottage on Little Glen Lake.  You won’t want to miss a single home \non the library tour held on Thursday\, July 20th from 10-4.  Tickets will be available from members \nof the Glen Lake Garden Club\, The Cottage Book Shop\, Northwoods Home & Gift\, and the Glen \nLake Library in Empire.  Cost is $20.   Tickets will be available for purchase at the end of June.
