A reception to open this group show is Aug. 4\, 6-8 p.m. \nHome is where the art is\, and Home + Table celebrates artist-made objects for the abode – from artisan cutting board\, hand built ceramic tableware\, hand-pulled woodblock and fish prints\, to forged barbecue and picnic implements\, and paper ornaments. SUMMARY:Center Gallery Celebrates A Decade of Margo Burian
DESCRIPTION:Paintings of Leelanau County’s land and water – as processed through the imagination of Grand Rapids artist Margo Burian – are on display July 21-27 at Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. A public reception opens this 10th anniversary show on July 21\, 6 p.m. \n2017 marks the 10th consecutive\, Center Gallery exhibition of Burian’s lush\, atmospheric oil paintings of the region. The painter’s work is an interpretation of experience and memory\, rather than a strict record of natural features and landmarks. She takes liberties with place and nature to move the painting from an accounting to an interpretation. After the initial on-site point of contact with her subject\, she then returns to the studio to distill and develop the field notes into works that distinctly speaks to her love of the natural world. \nThis exhibition continues through July 27. For more information please call 231/334-3179. Center Gallery is open daily 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

SUMMARY:Talk About Art: Sculptor Bill Allen
DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) “Talk About Art” series continues with host Norm Wheeler in conversation with sculptor Bill Allen on Sunday\, April 9\, 2 p.m. at The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor. There is no charge. \nAllen is known throughout the region for his large-scale\, welded steel sculpture celebrating a wide range of four-legged animals. In the early 2000s Allen began exploring other media and began creating mixed media paintings — sculptural compositions made from drift wood and other treasures he found washed up on local beaches. These works found their way into a 2010 collaborative project he undertook with Traverse City poet Fleda Brown whose poetry he used as the starting point for new works. Allen is a self-taught visual artist who lives in Maple City. \nThe Leelanau School is located at 1 Old Homestead Road in Glen Arbor. For more information\, please call the GAAA at 231/334-6112\, or go to the GAAA website: glenarborart.org.
