DESCRIPTION:Human hands with their dexterous\, opposable thumbs have allowed us to innovate\, to use tools\, to become nimble\, skillful\, creative\, and artful makers. The Glen Arbor Arts Center By Hand project is a consideration of the myriad ways in which the human hand is intrinsic to creative work; and a demonstration of what human hands can make. The By Hand project runs March 29 – May 30\, 2024\, and offers a range of programs that explore this theme through the visual\, performing\, architectural\, and literary arts. \nIn a time of machine dominance\, there is case to be made that right now is the perfect moment to celebrate making-by-hand. DESCRIPTION:The Forging For Peace Project blacksmiths return to the Glen Arbor Arts Center Forge on Saturday\, May 20\, Sunday\, June 18\, Sunday\, July 23\, and Sunday\, August 20 from 11 am – 3 pm. The demonstrations are free and open to the public.\nThese Northern Michigan artists and craftsmen use the ancient art of blacksmithing as part of a world-wide project to raise funds for non-profits focused on peacemaking.
