SUMMARY:Magic Thursday Artists Summer 2017 Exhibition and Sale
DESCRIPTION:The City Opera House is proud to again present the Magic Thursday Artists for a two-month art exhibition and sale July 1\, 2017 through August 31\, 2017. The exhibition features original fine art paintings in oil\, watercolor\, pastel and acrylic. A portion of all sales benefits the City Opera House.  \nThe opening reception\, with refreshments\, will be held on July 6\, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the City Opera House\, 106 East Front Street\, Traverse City. \nFeatured artists are: Sue Bowerman\, Pat Dixon\, Nancy Donley\, Nan Frankland\, Linda Goodpaster\, Veronique Jonas\, Ruth Kitchen\, Dorothy Mudget\, Sherry McNamara\, Marilyn Rebant\, and Laura Swire. \nThis group of accomplished local artists has been painting together for many years\, both outside (plein air) and in the studio space on Thursdays. You may have seen them around the area at various beautiful locations. Their love and joy in the creative process\, inspired by nature\, is reflected in their fine work. \nThe exhibition is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and during evening events.  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Center Gallery: Catherine VanVoorhis Paints Sleeping Bear Icons
DESCRIPTION:Painter Catherine VanVoorhis brings the accumulated knowledge of her three-decades long relationship with the Sleeping Bear Dunes to canvas. An exhibition of VanVoorhis’s take on Leelanau County’s iconic natural features will be exhibited at Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. This show runs Aug. 11-17. An artist’s reception opens the exhibition on Friday\, Aug. 11\, 6-8 p.m.  \n“For me\, a landscape painting is a portrait of a specific place and the plants and terrain of that location\,” VanVoorhis said. “I want to learn about and respect each subject that I paint. This comes from a lifetime of wilderness camping\, bird watching\, studying plants\, and reading about nature.”  \nVanVoorhis\, an instructor at the Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor\, teaches drawing\, color theory\, painting and drawing. SUMMARY:Music on the Mountain - Jazz North at The Homestead
DESCRIPTION:The music and energy will be so inspiring you’ll have a hard time sitting still. Jazz North is a “little” big band combining the best acoustic and electric jamz for all genres. \nThe horn section gels with the rhythm section to perform everything from funk to swing to rhythm and blues. You’ll also hear some Latin\, bebop\, and rock. This seven piece band also throws in plenty of fresh original arrangements for a mix that’s delightful for listening and dancing! The experienced core musicians have played together for many years\, creating a tight musical camaraderie that demonstrates their love for music and inspiring anyone with a toe to tap. \n\nThe concert begins at 7pm. Transportation via chair lift or six-passenger golf cart begins at 6pm.
