SUMMARY:Magic Thursday Artists Summer 2016 Art Show and Sale
DESCRIPTION:The City Opera House is proud to again present the Magic Thursday Artists for a three-month art exhibition and sale July 1\, 2016 through September 30\, 2016 – Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The exhibition features original fine art paintings in oil\, watercolor\, pastel and acrylic. A portion of all sales benefits the City Opera House. Several Leelanau County artists will be featured.\n \nThe opening reception\, with refreshments\, will be held on July 6\, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the City Opera House\, 106 East Front Street\, Traverse City. \nAdmission is Free \nJuly 1\, 2016 through September 30\, 2016

SUMMARY:Streets\, Beaches\, Cafes: Jazz Painting by Lisa Flahive
DESCRIPTION:Traverse City artist Lisa Flahive paints the immediacy of local streets\, beaches\, cafes and jazz clubs. Her view of these diverse worlds will be on display at Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor\, Sept. 2-15. A reception opens the exhibition on Sept. 2\, 6-8 p.m. \nWorking in a range of water-based paints\, Flahive immerses herself in the location she’s painting. Working quickly\, she captures a place’s energy\, the people moving through it\, the music coming out of it. She is artist-in-residence for Chateau Chantel Winery in Traverse City\, and paints live on the bandstand each week. Flahive also paints and teaches sketching in Chicago. \nAs part of her exhibition\, Flahive will conduct a painting demonstration at Center Gallery on Saturday\, Sept. 10\, 1 p.m. The event is open to the public. Rachel will be performing from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Platte River Campground Amphitheater\, and the concert is free with a park pass. \nBorn Rachel Borovik\, but better known by her stage name of “Rachel B\,” the singer has cited Ella Fitzgerald\, Billie Holiday\, and Corinne Bailey Rae as her inspiration. Her style has been described as pop\, jazz and soul combined. Rachel refers to her style as being “soulful empowerment pop.” \nRachel’s songs are sassy\, imaginative and energetic\, and she has been compared favorably to Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse. \nAll concerts are free with a park pass. Passes may be purchased at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire\, Michigan and cost $15 (per vehicle) for seven days or $30 for an annual pass.
