SUMMARY:Center Gallery: Color Stories
DESCRIPTION:Center Gallery opens its 2016 season May 27 with a month-long exhibition of hand-formed porcelain clay tableware by Darcy Bowden and textile constructions by Sarah Bearup-Neal. An artists’ reception is May 27\, 6-8 p.m. at the gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \n  \nBowden’s plates\, bowls and other table objects make the service of food an artful act. They’re simple\, modern and embellished with familiar shapes in happy\, lively colors. Bowden hand forms her objects using an anvil and paddle. A resident of Ypsilanti\, Bowden taught art for 30 years\, retiring from the Ann Arbor Public Schools in 2008. \n  \nBearup-Neal’s banners and small fabric constructions strike a modern temperament. The Empire artist’s work references many familiar quiltmaking themes and techniques\, then translates these time-honored characteristics into contemporary compositions that showcase stitchery\, mark-making\, hand-painted and hand-printed materials\, graphic line and shape\, storytelling and strong color play. \n  \nThis exhibition runs through June 30. DESCRIPTION:Challenge yourself on five area courses while competing against some of the best amateur golfers in Northwestern Michigan. \nFormat: \n\n90 hole stroke play\nGross competition\nOpen to amateurs only\nGolfers will play one round on each course\nNo cut is made after 18 holes\n\nDate\, Course & Start Time:\n\n Saturday\, June 11 – The Dunes 11am\nSunday\, June 12 – Leelanau Club at Bahle Farms 11am\nSaturday\, June 18 – Sugarloaf\, the Old Course 11am\nSunday\, June 19 – Northport Creek 11am\nSaturday\, June 25 – Manitou Passage Golf Club 11am\n\nFees:\n\n\n$245 individual entry\nIncludes 90 holes of golf with cart\, range balls where applicable\, prizes and tee gift.  Reduced practice round fees are also available for advance tee times at the course to be played that day.\n\nTees:\n\n\nMen under 40 years – Blue\nMen 41 – 54 – White\nMen 55+ & Juniors – Gold\nWomen – Forward\n\nFlights:\n\n\nFollowing the first 36 holes of golf\, the top 72 players will form a Championship flight and the remainder of the field will form the Consolation flight.  Payout will be created at that time.\n\nPrizes:\n\n\n Awarded to the top 25% of the Championship flight and the top 5 in the Consolation flight.  All payouts will be in golf shop credits.  Exact prize amounts will be posted when the field is finalized.\n\nFor additional questions\, contact Manitou Passage Golf Club at 231.228.6000.  Registration will close Sunday\, June 12.

SUMMARY:Michigan-in-Summer: New Paintings by Joseph Lombardo
DESCRIPTION:Ohio artist Joseph Lombardo continues his study of Glen Arbor with a series of new paintings July 15-21\, Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. The show opens with a public reception July 15 at 6 p.m. \n  \nLombardo\, an adjunct professor at Columbus College of Art and Design\, first visited Glen Arbor in 2009 and executed the first of his Michigan-in-Summer paintings. Through this evolving group of oil paintings Lombardo explores the Leelanau landscape\, light\, and color as well as its houses\, trees\, bicycles\, farm houses and night scenes. \n  \nAs part of his exhibition\, Lombardo conducts a demonstration at Center Gallery\, July 17\, 1 p.m. This demonstration is an opportunity to watch the artist work\, and to talk with him about his process and technique.
