DESCRIPTION:The Glen Arbor Art Association is holding an exhibition of 35 of its members’ paintings and photographs.  There will be an opening reception 6 pm – 8 pm\, Friday\, May 15 and the exhibit viewing will be open weekdays until June 15. The show will be judged and prizes will be announced at the opening reception. Most artwork will be for sale and many of the artists will be on hand to meet the public at the reception.

SUMMARY:Charles Murphy: New Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Center Gallery opens its 2015 May 22 with new works of Up North icons by Traverse City painter Charles Murphy. A public reception for the artist is 6 p.m. at the gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. \n  \nMurphy’s new body of work reflects his affinity for classic\, northern Michigan symbols – boats\, barns\, birds and the diverse landscape. He looks for subjects that have a strong “local” presence\, and records them as sketches\, which are later finished in the studio. Murphy’s evocative\, emotive impressions of his homeplace are executed in a richly saturated palette using watercolor\, oil and acrylic. \n  \nTwo artist’s demonstrations are scheduled as part of this exhibition\, June 6 and June 20\, 1 p.m. at Center Gallery. DESCRIPTION:Glen Arbor Art Association presents the Reader Theater performance of God Bless the Child by Empire author Ron Healy. It is a story of redemption within the generations of a family.  Naomi and Oliver have recently married and are having difficulties adjusting to their new positions and differing backgrounds.  It is a rocky start but salvaged by an honest course of action taken by their grandchildren who\, without meaning to\, help them adjust to their new life.\n\nThe story takes place on a farm where roots are deep and generations of family inform the past\, present and future. ”God Bless the Child”\, directed by Harriet Mittelberger\,  will be performed June 12\, and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and June 14\, at 3:00 p.m. at GAAA . Admission is free but reservations are recommended and can be made at glenarborart.org.\n\nThe cast list is as follows:  Joe Kilpatrick is Oliver\, Kathryn Den Houter is Naomi\, Pete LaPlaca is Porter\, James Deaton is Cal\, Oliver’s grandson\, Cory Woessner is Jaime\, Naomi’s grandson\, and Rhonda Richards is Carey\, Jaime’s wife.\n
