DESCRIPTION:Traverse City artist Joan Richmond explores “Edges: Water\, Sky\, Land\,” a new series of paintings at Center Gallery\, 6023 S. Lake St.\, Glen Arbor. The show opens Aug. 8\, 6 p.m. with a reception for the artist. \n  \nRichmond\, a painting instructor at Northwestern Michigan College\, continues to examine the place “where water meets land” through the medium of gouache\, an opaque watercolor medium. Working on location and in the studio\, the artist focuses on vignettes of northern Michigan. DESCRIPTION:A Fundraiser for the Port Oneida Fair\, presented by Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear\nFriday\, August 8th\n4:30 – 6:30 pm dinner served; music until…8:00ish\nSpend your day at the Port Oneida Fair and then sit down for our 4th annual old-fashioned chicken dinner at the Charles and Hattie Olsen Farm!  Dinner includes 1/2 a chicken\, potato salad\, corn on the cob\, roll\, beverage and dessert.  Proceeds benefit the Port Oneida Fair so we can “keep it FREE”! \nPrice: $15    Ticket availability not guaranteed after August 5th. \nWe’ll have some tickets available at the Olsen Farm on Friday. First come\, first serve!  \nThere is not a children’s price – we recommend to buy a full dinner and divide it for children.  We’re happy to help make the split. \nMusic and Dancing\nWe’ll have great music again by the Northport Community Band to entertain you during dinner for some toe-tapping fun!  And definitely stay to dance to  down-home fiddle music.

SUMMARY:Artist Reception and Exhibit - Carolyn Talbot Hoagland Memorial Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:For Carolyn Talbot Hoagland (1921 – 2013)\, art was an essential part of life. She worked in oil\, pastel\, watercolor\, clay\, and paper making.  She studied at the Dayton Art Institute\, Scott Carbee School of Art in Boston\, Michigan State University\, Lansing Community College and various arts workshops across the country. Carolyn’s paintings were accepted for many juried shows in Michigan and nationally. She enjoyed life drawing and portrait work and  shoreline scenes. She was a summer resident of Glen Arbor for 30 years until her death last September. In addition to her career as a visual artist\, Carolyn supported the arts in many ways. Carolyn’s family is honoring her artistic legacy with this exhibit. Her work will not be for sale but the public is welcome to attend.
